Lamentation Mountain is a 4.5 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Meriden, Connecticut that features a lake and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, nature trips, and bird watching.
The hike takes place on the blue blazed Mattabesett and Metacomet Trails. There is ample parking at Giuffrida Park, and the hike starts with a pleasant stroll through the pines alongside the Bradley Hubbard Reservoir. Soon enough the trail turns up Lamentation Mountain. The summit offers fine views out over Silver Lake.
Enjoyable hike with some beautiful scenic views. The trail lives up to the moderate rating with some steep inclines and declines. Be prepared with good sturdy shoes since most of the trail has roots or rocks.
The trail is well marked but I wasn’t paying attention and ended hiking up where the power line structures are. If you find yourself following a gravel path rather than soil, you’re on the wrong trail. The hike is steep in the beginning and rocky for most of the way. Trek poles definitely help. Once you get on top, the view is amazing.
What a great hike! lots to see..started to the right..got steepest part over first...the top was pretty great views..cool to see rock quarry on other side. Lots of small loose rock..hiking boots suggested and a trekk pole helps with stability. at the bottom we did blue to red...walked along lake under pines. so nice...a great day!! took 2 hrs.
Nice trail. I think we got off the trail at a few different points because we went more like 5 miles. We traveled down near the lake at one point and then made our way up and followed the blue trail to the end of this particular indicated map and then back down. There are many scenic overlook spots on the blue trail up near the top looking down into the valley, across to Castle Craig and at few scenic points you could even see Hartford. The trail was very rocky and much loose rock in places. In March it was still fairly muddy and a lot of water runoff right on the trail. Overall a great hike, very few bugs until we got to the top, and fairly secluded. We only ran into a few other hikers on this particular trail.
