Great loop, especially if you have dogs! My wife and I took the white trail around the whole loop with our pups. Nice scenery and views of Ct. river

RunningGreat!

This trail is actually great for running. Parking is limited but the trail is really well groomed, I am not a strong runner and did the white trail loop twice. Not many bugs, some nice scenery and very little rocks and roots to avoid. Would highly recommend for trail running, walking a dog, or with kids. Parking is limited but there was no one there, I have a feeling parking is never an issue.

Fun trail with lots if small overgrown side paths to take that lead you back to the main path but give a bit of curiosity. Two small beaches off the CT river to discover.

Hiking

Very easy hike through the woods of Essex. The white trail marked decently enough to follow around the loop. Good for kids as most of it is pretty flat and mostly free of large rocks.

Easy quick trail. Great place to take your dogs if only others would put theirs on leashes. Wanted to take our dogs here for a walk but never can because there’s so many dogs un leashed.

One of my favorites. Not a very long or difficult hike, but my kids and puppy love it.

This was a neat trail!!! Beautiful places to wander down to water. Lucky for us it was low tide! Dogs were not a problem in fact enjoyable to watch them have fun....

Great trail, there was a nice beach, but a lot of off leash dogs. I personally don't mind, but if you don't like being near off leash dogs, then beware.

Short walk to a CT River beach. Lots of dogs off leash. The woods are filled with knocked down trees and trees that are dead and dying.

Great trail. Too many off leash dogs. Some didn’t even have a leash with them. So if your leashed dog has issues with other dogs beware.

Great loop for a hike alone or with the kids. I took mine (4 and 8) and they handled it with no problems. Great access to the river with lovely views.

Everything was great, just an absurd amount of gnats constantly in your face. Trail was easy and beautiful. A few spots to get down to the water. Will definitely be going back with my dog!

First to Review

It’s an easy stroll through local woods and has become something of a local go-to place for a quick walk. FYI, dogs are frequently present and are often off-leash. There are occasional issues with dogs and/or their owners often having to do with poop or off-leash behavior.
