This rugged loop features expansive vistas with breathtaking views of the Wassel Reservoir. There are plenty of rocks to sit on and take in the views. Come during the fall to see the leaves changing colors along this popular hiking trail, or come in the winter for snowshoeing. This popular New England hike features lots of steep uphills and partial rock climbing over boulders at some points.

Definitely a fun trail!. I don’t think the overall mileage listed is accurate. It claims to be 5 1/2 miles but we had it closer to 6 1/2. The views are spectacular definitely not for beginners as a couple people in our group didn’t seem to enjoy it as much as they should have.

Well marked trail with nice views - from both sides of the ridge if you do the loop.
Also a slightly challenging side trail down to, and back up from the ‘caves’ (for CT caves picture tiny crevices in the rock face!). Fun little diversion if you don’t mind a steeper scramble.

I hiked this on snow covered ground. There were three overlook points. Two gave a gorgeous view of a lake and pine trees and one gave an overlook of trees. Off to the distance you can see the Mt. Southington ski mountain. There were some inclines, declines and flat areas making it a great hike. My legs felt it at the end of the day. Bring ice spikes and trekking poles if hiking here on the winter.

Great trail, but the leaves made the rocks pretty slippery!

Nice views even in a winter day. A couple spots are a bit rocky but that's the fun.
Probably it's easier to start going south / left from the trailhead and do the loop.

after moving to this side of the connecticut river from Manchester, I was looking for a local hike comparable to case mountain. what a gem this place is. 10 minute drive from where I live and more than enough of a challenge to make it an experience worth having every time. love this mountain.

beautiful views year round

Many reviews had stated that the trails were poorly marked however I am assuming they were recently repainted because all of the trails we hiked were clearly marked.

This trail was really fun! Lots of good views, some good scrambling at times. Good amount of mud, plenty of rocks to walk across though.

The view on top is magnificent! I took the blue/red trail on the left to go on top of the mountain and it is very rocky. Make sure to keep your head up to see the markers. There is a small portion where there seems to be no more markers and you will go right on a wide trail (like for ATV) and then you will have to go off that path and take a left (slight uphill) to get back on track and keep going along the "cliffs".
Very nice hike overall!!

The trail was very wet from all the rain some of the parts of the trail had turned into a small creek so would recommend wearing waterproof hiking shoes.

My husband and I started our hike on the blue trail and ended on the blue/red trail. The trail markings were spaced far apart and difficult to follow. Some of the trail markings were faded and need to be remarked. It is easy to go off the trail if you are not carful.
The views were beautiful.

amazing view

On a positive note the hike had very nice views over looking the lake and terrain can be challenging at times. On the negative the trail markings are very difficult to follow so make sure to use this map and also print one out as this one is not color coded properly. Also watch where you step as there was a baby 18” rattlesnake near the path today which would not have been good had we stepped on it.

Great views. The hike is what I scored. Frustrated with the app, though. I recorded it and it didn’t save and wouldn’t let me share.

Lots of open areas with great views! Climb was on the easy side of moderate, but still on good rocky terrain for most of the loop. Very easy to go the wrong way the first mile or two, so heads up.

Great hike. Started at West Lane entrance. Went left at fork and took Blue/Red trail to Blue trail. Nice scenes. Great peak. Took Blue up to Blue/Yellow and cut back across East to starting point. AllTrails said we hiked 4.3 miles and burned 1431 calories. NICE. Definitely got a great workout. Would highly recommend. Can't wait to go back and do full loop.

A really awesome trail with great views. It would certainly be a 5 star review if the trails were marked better. Very easy to get lost. I have The AllTrails Pro and it bailed us out a couple of times.

Quite a picturesque hike with plenty of views, but difficult to follow the trail markers, and most of the maps along trail heads are missing.

I did this hike with a friend for the first time and really got an intense workout. Such beautiful views overlooking the reservoir. Some rocky and steep inclines and we ended up a bit lost until we used our handy dandy map offered with this app to guide us back. We hiked a good 3+ hours and felt invigorated.

for the casual hiker it's a bit harder but worth the workout.
