Great views of Little Narragansett Bay from Barn Island Wildlife Management Area. Sunny and dry trails for a late March day.

Beautiful trail! FYI hunting is allowed here, and we did see a hunter in orange gear just a few yards from the main path. Kind of spoiled it for us. We did see a pheasant on the path later on, which was very cool! Easy trail, great views, not super muddy - just be careful.

Running

Beautiful trail going through marshes, woods, and fields, with nice ups and downs in the forest sections. Plenty wide throughout if you stay on the main trails; can mostly fit two across. We ran it so bugs were not an issue. Good footing although you need to watch your step as there are protruding rocks here and there throughout.

This trail had it all! And by that, I mean mosquitoes, briars, ticks and poison ivy. It was also extremely overgrown in the “Tin Can Alley” trail that’s part of the North, West and East Fire Road Loop(zoom in on that map to see that trail name). That portion of trail was waist high ferns, and not much more than a game trail. I did a convoluted set of loops that incorporated all 4 of the trails that are posted on this app. So can’t really separate my whole experience for review purposes. The eastern portion of the map was easy to follow, but lots of poison ivy. The long spur out to the salt marsh was pretty. Overall, nothing really wowed me.

Not a bad hike; it has some nice views. If you're looking for something very challenging this is not it. It's good for kids or someone with no experience with hiking. There were definitely a lot of mosquitoes, which is to be expected. Nothing a little bug spray didn't help. Trails were mostly well marked.

Nature trips

This location is one of the better places in the state of Connecticut for birding, and I know it well. I would give it five stars except for all the mosquitoes, which did make it a little bit tedious. The very end of the trail does meet with the access road, which isn’t aesthetically wonderful, but it’s not so bad. Definitely bring bug spray.
