We did this yesterday without snowshoes, but I would recommend them for the last mile. I am small enough were I only fell through a couple times, but my husband who weighs more really struggled. It is absolutely doable to get there in just boots, but if you want to stay dry bring snowshoes for that last little bit!

Definitely not able to finish this trail without snowshoes, and even then you might struggle. Made it about 2.5 miles up before we gave up after several areas that you will posthole waist deep. Recommend coming back later.

Wow this is a very steady incline pretty much the whole way. Mostly forest views that runs by a river which is very full. The river is so full, there are two areas that you have to cross over logs which was a lot of fun but a little treacherous. There are also significant sections affected by avalanches and the trail completely covered. There are paths to travel on to get back to the trail but it requires some climbing. Definitely grab a stick for balance before you attempt! It's a challenging hike but though I found it beautiful, I would not say the end view is 'magnificent'. Wear longer pants because my legs were very scratched up by the end.
