We found this confusing. We started at the sign (in the mini parking area) that said West Lake Trail 1/4 mile with an arrow pointing up the road, but after walking over an hour on the road — with high clearance vehicles and ATVs passing us, we never found the actual trailhead.

The end destination isn't that great, but the views along the way are really sweet. Elevation gain at the beginning of the hike is pretty steep and then it gradually gets easier.

Definitely a lot better in the fall. Nice and shady and plenty of aspens. Gorgeous.
