This is a high elevation trail with instant views of the peaks of the Ragged Wilderness. The trail ascends easily, passing by two marvelous viewpoints before arriving at the overlook vista of the Gothic Valley and the peaks that frame it. This is the most scenic part of the hike. Wildflowers are also abundant here. After this overlook at mile 1.33, the trail descends very steeply. It is a popular mountain bike trail so there can be ruts and the trail can be very slippery. This is what turns the trail from moderate to difficult. There are wonderful views of Gothic Mountain. By mile 1.6, the trail enters spruce forest with limited views until mile 2.63. Then the trail opens up again as it descends steeply through the wildflower smothered hillsides of the Gothic Valley.

Awesome trail. First half mile is a pretty constant climb. Wildflowers everywhere on the way up the first 2 miles. Right at about the 2 mile mark there is a stream crossing. After that there were still a few patches of snow but they are for the most part avoidable. Upon reaching the 3rd mile mark, there are spectacular views looking through Gothic Canyon with the Maroon Peaks across from you. Continuing up the trail was dry for the rest of the way until reaching the chairs overlooking Washington Gulch.

About half way through this hike, I was thinking about writing a mediocre review. We pressed on and are oh so glad we did. The views at the top are stunning. Would be fabulous in the summer with the wild flowers in bloom. However, the fall colors, brisk air and no traffic on the trail made this hike fantastic.

Nice hike with some stunning views. The drive out to the head trail alone is worth doing!!

Also came across a deer and a few marmots which kept it interesting.

The beginning of this trail to the overlook which is 1.33 miles is absolutely stunning. There are wonderful vistas of Washington Gulch valley, Baldy Peak, Gothic Mountain, and the Gothic Valley. Wildflowers are beautiful in late July. It is really an easy ascent to the viewpoint but the high elevation makes the hike moderate. If you hike all the way through, you will be hiking through some spruce forest with limited views. The last mile of the trail is very steep downhill but has spectacular views of the gothic valley. This part of the trail passes through 4 foot tall wildflowers. Wonderful!
