HikingGreat!

Absolutely amazing hike! My favorite yet! Overall - super easy until you get to the Silver Queen lift. Past that, it’s a bit steep and has a bit of climbing near the peak. WONDERFUL views of Crested Butte and enjoyed seeing all of the wildlife! We saw a coyote, deer, American pika, etc on the hike! Definitely exhausted near the end, but would recommend to anyone looking for a fun, rewarding hike in the area.

Took the silver queen line at base of mountain to top then strenuous 0.9 mile hike to top. Rocky scramble last 400 feet but views well worth it. Very few people wearing masks though, which is unfortunate.

Absolutely FANTASTIC hike!!!! most of the way up is moderate, it only starts getting hard at the top of the ski lift. My dog (50 lb pit/boxer mix) made it all the way to the top, even through the rock scramble at the top. The views were incredible.

I would def recommend this trail. Meanders through aspen groves and offers grand views of the Crested Butte area. Not strenuous too

we did a partial hike. We took the ski lift up that was about a mile from the summit. It was a nice hike to the boulder fields. It was pretty rocky and steep but well marked. The views were very nice as we had great visibility. Going down, we had to use caution not to slide. We choose to continue hiking instead of going down on the lift we came up on. Instead we hiked down to a different lift another couple of miles downhill on the service road. The grades were easy with switchbacks and the views were nice. The second lift down was more wooded and gave us good views. We have a toddler so long hikes aren't great for him. I really enjoyed it and loved the workout and views. I highly recommend this trail or a portion like me and my wife did.

The trail was open all the way to the top. The last bit to the top is a scramble over boulders. Take your time and watch your footing. The views along the trail (and especially from the summit) are gorgeous. The trail gets a little crowded toward the top, since a ski lift takes folks almost all the way up. But before you get to that point, you have the trail to yourself. Very nice. As others have stated, the cat road is not the most inviting, but the views make up for that. We followed the All Trails path up and back. On the way down, we ended up on Avery trail as depicted on the map. This trail is for downhill cycling ONLY. Find another way down. We did not make many cycling friends while trying to get off of Avery Trail.

Hiking

The first half of this hike (lower and upper west side trails) was beautiful. We started around 8:30 from the CB base and didn’t see anyone else on the trail on the 4th of July! The top half was a cat road which would have been fine if we were able to get to the summit, but unfortunately the last portion of the trail was closed due to snow and mud. The attendant at the top of the lift (where the trail is closed) told us it will likely open in a week or and this is the latest it has ever opened. The road was fine, just not as nice as the trail. I would still do it again, the wild flowers were great.
