This route is a fun paved/concrete trail from Ridgway to the Dallas Creek Trailhead area. There are also dirt trail options in the area if you prefer. Accessibility: There are several small paved parking lots off Sherman Street but it is unclear whether any of them have any designated handicapped-accessible parking spaces with striped access aisles. The trail surface is paved asphalt or concrete, smooth, and typically at least six feet wide. The estimated grade is moderately steep (mostly up to 8%) but there are a few very steep areas starting at 1.6 miles when going north with over a 12% grade that may not be passable with wheelchair/mobility equipment or strollers. The steepest sections have been marked with waypoints but there are very steep estimated grades (over 12%) at 1.6, 4.8 - 5.3 miles, and between 7.1 and 9.8 miles when going north.
We started at the trail’s end and went backwards for 2.5 miles each way (for total out & back mileage of just over 5 miles). The initial ascent is intense, but the views are gorgeous immediately, then just keep getting better. Some snow & ice on the trail, but nothing too challenging (as of 12/8).
A fun paved/concrete trail from Ridgway to the Dallas Creek Trailhead area. Wife and I meandered on and off the trail as we left Ridgway and headed towards the Dallas Creek area. Lots to explore along this portion of the trail. Take your time and have fun.
Nice paved trail with one climb coming out of Ridgway on the way back to Dallas Creek area of Ridgway State Ark.
