I hiked the 403 from Washington Gulch side to the top up to the overlook. I did not go down to the Gothic side since U need a car or shuttle on the other side, unless U want a really long steep climb back to Washington Gulch side. It is a short but steep climb to the overlook but the trail is not that difficult.

To get there, take Washington Gulch road, which turns into a dirt road. Has private road signs on it. Pass the Meridian lake community and pass Elkton old mining town. After Elkton, there is one steep switchback with a sharp left turn after that you will see parking on left and trail sign on the right.

What makes 403 incredible is the unsurpassed 360 degree views of the Elk mountains. The trail was dotted with beautiful wildflowers although they were not as impressive as at Rustlers Gulch But still pretty. The views of the peaks tho are breathtaking. One of must do hikes in Crested Butte IMHO.
