Nothing spectacular about this trail. I would say it’s an entry point to a lot of other things. Start early (we started at 6:45am) as the sun is killer on the East portion of this trail with no shade.

Pretty good, medium amount of people even for a tuesday. Your average CO trail.

Great trail in June! Nice weather in the afternoon, minimal bugs and a solid hike. We’ll be back!

Great hike! If you want a hike that has enough incline and mixed terrain to get your heart rate up but also has enough flatter more well maintained trail to catch your breathe and take in the scenic beauty, beautiful birds, and wildflowers, this is for you. I’ll be back for sure. (four stars because of the fairly steady passing of unmasked, sweaty, trail runners whose B.O. dominated the air).

Fav trail close to metro. So many wildflowers!!! Easy to follow trail, many options, off leash dogs on certain trails, and not many people if you go early (started at 7:45a). The mtn/rocks are a beautiful feature and dwarf you. Highly recommended 10/10 would come again

Trail runners not wearing masks, not social distancing, instead going about their privileged way. As Im sure it is on most trails these days.

Great walking trails . Plenty of connections to deeper trails (such as shadow canyon). Easy hike if you’re looking for a smooth walk

3/22/20 The Towhee portion of the trail is too muddy; take the Mesa Trail instead.

Mostly good for snowshoeing. The first part of the trail looked good but 1/4 mile in there were large patches that were all mud or rock from sun exposure. I would suggest spikes for the first mile, then snow shoes. There was some amazing pillowy soft deep snow in places, especially for the front range. It was perfect weather between the snow storm we had the the one predicted to start tomorrow.

The parking situation made us almost turn around and go somewhere else, but we lucked out, Best time to go would be around 2 PM, which is when we left and we saw a lot more spots available. The trail itself is beautiful. Inbound was via Homestead which was a constant incline.

I love this trail, but if you don't get there early AF, the parking lot is ALWAYS FULL! I've tried twice to go there in the past 3 weeks and there has never been a parking spot available.

The trail has changed slightly from the published path due to areas being closed for conservation work, but it was easy enough to find my way around. Enjoyed seeing the varied landscape and find the elevation gain to make this one feel more like a hike than a stroll. One section of the trail is closed to dogs.

Great hike!! I would've rated it higher, however, this description is not accurate. The Towhee trail is NOT dog-friendly, in fact they are STRICTLY prohibited. Based on this information on AllTrails, we had planned to do a short 2.6 mile hike with 2 young kids and 1 dog. We started on Homestead, and when we got to Towhee, there were red signs saying "dogs prohibited. Violators will be summoned." We were at a point that we could not go back on Homestead, as it would've been too difficult for my 4yo (& myself carrying my 3yo on my back) and the alternate route was much longer. So, we took Towhee, ran into a very disgruntled, mean woman who yelled at us, tried to block the trail and called the rangers. All of this occurring in front of my 3yo & 4yo children. Let's just say I have had more pleasant hikes elsewhere. So...don't take your dog on Towhee.
