A wide, gravel trail ascends a sparsely forested slope, crossing the Colorado Trail, leading to the vicinity of three shallow swamps. Some bushwhacking is required to locate the waters, but beyond them are clear views of the impressive Mount Massive. Plenty of free parking at the Leadville Fish Hatchery.

Hiked 6/24/2018. Completely snow free. The trail is nothing special, just gravel and some river rock through a thin forest. But the lakes are kind of neat. Very peaceful, have the feeling of total seclusion. Bugs weren't horrible, didn't use bug spray. Descended the Rock Creek Trail that runs parallel just south of this one. That trail is a little smoother, and it meets up with the Fish Hatchery natural trail system near the parking lot. Gentle enough grade that snowshoeing would be quite enjoyable too. Probably won't drive 2 hours to do this one again, but happy to cross it off the list.
