Nice but exposed at the start until you get to the top and reach the cell tower. From there you hike through a series of aspens, pines and wildflowers and it’s fantastic. We hiked to the Red Mountain Rd. connection and then down into town on Hunter Creek. Awesome hike. About 14mi.

Heavily trafficked - watch out for mountain bikers. Wonderful views nonetheless.

Beautiful views. Be careful of mountain bikers in the summer. The path turns are narrow and bikers go quickly so hikers have to jump out of the way on short notice.

Beautiful hike overlooking Aspen Valley however the "end" for the 5.4 mile trail is anticlimatic as it just stops in the middle of a dark forest--the trail continues if you want to go through to Hunter Creek but the out and back is a bit disappointing. The hike itself is beautiful as it meanders behind Red Mtn into Aspen Groves.

This is a great trail for a short hike and also trail running. I got 4.40 miles before it was completely deep snow and turned around. It was a little muddy at tree line but not bad. Great views of Highlands, Buttermilk, Snowmass and Aspen mountains and Maroon Bells.

This is a great trail and it doesn’t have to be an out and back you can come down sunny side plunge and connect to hunter creek trail it adds about five miles but it’s well worth it. I can’t wait to come down it on a bike!

Anticlimactic finish in the middle of the forest was disappointing, but if you turn around after reaching the top of the open area, you’ll have done a solid hike. The hiking terrain is cool and worth the trip. If you’re searching for views I wouldn’t put this hike on your list.

This trail is STEEP but well-maintained the whole way. We were told by a local we met in the trail that it’s actually a loop for the 10+ miles listed. We went up about 3 miles and were rewarded with a lovely aspen grove/forest that should be covered in columbine next week or so. They were about to flower. The front side could get really hot if you start too late because it has open southern exposure the whole way. Get a view of lots of 14ers all the way up. Awesome hike.

June 7th, 2019 Beautiful with a variety of scenery along the way. We started off on Cemetery Lane and made all the way around Red Mountain, despite the "trail" becoming a single patch of snow in the last northbound direction after the south facing side of Red Mountain. Luckily, we had some form of GPS otherwise we would have had to turn around, no way one could follow a trail... Came down the Sunnyside plunge to Hunter Creek. Very nice loop. To be done preferably when the snow has all melted though.

Great hike with incredible views of Aspen and up-valley. Was very dry on the ascent until you hit the trees, and then the trail was pretty wet with snow. Further down we completely lost the trail due to snow cover and turned around before we could reach the path going down to Hunter Creek. FYI we did see quite a few fresh bear prints in the snow, but did not see the animal.

I enjoyed this hike terrain and beauty. However, I was disappointed in the end of the trail seriously only a small open area marked with a trail marker 1987.., this map only shows and in and back but it's not at all true! You can thru hike and see great sites from Smugglers trail. But due to the poor trail head markers and city trail guide it shows to end at a jeep trail. I would have loved to continue but not knowing the area and being a tourist I didn't want to explore solo. I suggest getting good trail maps like the one at the trail head of sunny side and information so u can make it thru to hunters and pass smugglers trail that's great views for sunset!!

Hot!!! This trail has no shade. If you have a dog that is heat sensitive, avoid this trail. It was a great trail, but will leave the dog at home next time. The Mountain sun was intense.
