Stony Pass is interesting because the Rio Grand River starts on its east side. The road later crosses Pole Creek and the Rio Grande on the way to Kite Lake. If you continue straight on the Stony Pass Road it intersects with State 145 between Lake City and Creede. Kite Lake is absolutely beautiful.

Great technical route, lots of different conditions. Kite lake is a great view. Great example of the CO back country.

This was really enjoyable. Nice trail, different features. Loved crossing pole creek, although in July it was rip roaring. I guess an older couple got washed down the river the week before we went, so use caution.
