Easy half-mile walk around Sprague Lake (elevation 8,700 feet). Even has benches to sit and reflect from or watch fisherman catch fish. Great views all around of surrounding peaks and the Continental Divide at the far end of the lake, which also has large boulders, great for climbing. Boardwalks and bridges have been built over the marshy western side of the lake to take you back to the parking lot. Shallow, 13-acre lake was part of a resort once owned by Abner Sprague, an expert guide and host. Just before Rocky Mountain National Park was established in 1915, Sprague dammed the far end to create better fishing for his lodge guests.

This trail is great for all ages. It is a super quick walk around the lake that has beautiful mountain views. There are a few benches along the way to sit and take in the beauty of the National Park. Great way to get in a hike if you don’t have a lot of time. There was some ice on the trail today and it was very windy. My kids and I had an amazing time.

Wonderful walk, took us about 30 min. There was a lot of snow but it was still beautiful, and quick enough that we could handle the snow. Super easy hike, great for all ages and skill levels.

Super easy, flat, short hike with still breathtaking views. Highly recommend, even for those who are skeptical of hiking. Parking lot close by and clearly defined trail make this a perfect short hike.

We took the long way, coming in from the backside of the lake. We started at the YMCA and hiked near Glacier Creek and alongside the campgrounds. It was a great hike. Some early high gains, but it leveled off after a half mile or so. It is about 3 miles up, so be ready, but it’s in the woods most of the way. Some clearings for a good view and mountain across the valley is beautiful. The trail is tough early due to gains and horses, but the other 2/3 had good terrain for any speed/pace.

We did the loop one evening around sunset. Found places moose had been coming in and out of and sat and waited. 5 minutes passed and a moose came out of nowhere! So beautiful. Easy. Popular. Lots of people.

My favorite hike in the Rocky Mountain national park. We do opt to take the slightly longer way around, as opposed to the short hike around the lake. Stunningly beautiful and fun for all ages

Not a hike but a nice walk. Similar walking path to Bear Lake just a little longer. Lots of walkers of all ages walking the path around the lake. Pretty Mountain View’s from the east side of the lake. Nice spot fir a snack, picnic, or all family walk around a lake.

Great trail, nice and easy, beautiful scenery, and not too busy at least at the time I went. I like that there's plenty of picnic tables and grills too!

If you are recovering from a long hike from a recent day, but still want to go out and see the beauty of the mountains, then this is the spot for you! Not far from the entrance of RMNP, you can keep your body moving with a slow or paced walk around the lake, with a good variety of views. I saw people fishing and kayaking, as well as sitting on some provided benches on a well laid out, perfectly easy to follow trail. We sat in hammocks here about .3 miles into the walk (going left from the start) right by one of the first rest spots. Some good views for artists to paint or photograph as well (Alyssa enjoyed painting the scene from our view), as many of the mountains are visible!

My son and I stopped here to get in a leg-stretcher before something more challenging. We were rewarded with a sight neither of us had seen before: a mother moose and her young one feeding in the lake! The mother was unbelievably calm with all the people gathered to see, and we enjoyed the scene for a full 10-15 minutes before they took off into the woods. Even without the moose this lake is so picturesque. This would be a great place to picnic.
