South Platte River Greenway Trail East is a 13.9 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Denver, Colorado that features a river and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
A lovely paved path with beautiful flowers and a creek along the way. The rapids by the park are popular for rafting. Accessibility: The trail surface is paved and typically at least six feet wide. The grade is mostly gentle (all estimated under 5%) so most wheelchair and stroller users will likely be able to traverse the trail.
Great for speed!! Highly trafficked paced trail. Can stretch the distance we’ll passed 13mi one way. Beautiful creek along the way and lots of wildflowers! Equal parts shade and sun so it was pretty hot mid afternoon.
industrial.. occasional vagrants.. busy with smooth riding cement.
great ride today, 32 miles round-trip! It was neat seeing all of the rafters, kayakers, and SUP people going down the rapids closer to the park. Highly recommend, just can get a bit hot in the middle of the day so is great as an early morning or late afternoon ride. also, there's a ni e coffee and smoothie shop about halfway down. Their mango smoothies are bomb and perfect for a mid ride pick me up.
Great ride. Road up from DU to Cherry Creek and took that up not South Platte River Trail. Total of 37.5 miles - woot woot! Great ride and the only part that was crowded was down near LODO.
Bikes from DU down to Cherry Creek trail, up to the rapids and down South Platte River trail. It's a great ride that last about 1-1.5 hours. The Cherry Creek trail side tends to be a little crowded as you get into LODO but clears up quickly when you reach South Platte trail. A great workout - I ride this 15 mile route 4-5 times per week.
It’s an urban bike trail, mostly paved in asphalt that follows along the Platt River in Denver. It runs fairly parallel to I-25 so you’ll experience the sounds and views of the freeway and the industrial businesses for good portions of the trail, but also along the way are small green spaces from time to time. It’s nice and long and fairly flat with no traffic or cross streets if you’re looking for a trail in the city to get some distance in. I went during the day by myself. I would not recommend alone after dark as there are lots of overpasses, bridges, and deserted industrial yards along the way.
A lot people both running and biking, largely millennials/30-somethings, and has the feel of a big city trail that is used primarily for after work runs and bicycle commutes. Can be sketchy in parts if you linger. Pretty sure we saw a guy doing drugs behind a tree.
