The first mile and last mile are kinda boring and a lot of road noise. The middle portion is prettier. Trail is a bit narrow at places and we did see a bull snake along the trail. Got there late afternoon and only ran into a handful of people on trail. More like 5.5 miles than the 6 listed.

Saw an almost full grown black bear in Shadow Canyon this afternoon. Couldn’t tell if cubs were with it. Pretty neat but be aware.

The parking fee’s waived for now, but get there early if you’re going on the weekend! Parking lot was full by 6:30 am

5/22/20 – Nice moderate hike. Not too bad of an incline since it’s spread over 3 miles. Parking was a little tough for a late Friday morning. Both lots were completely full and had to drive around until a spot opened up. $5 parking fee is currently waived due to COVID-19.

Did routing per description and this was a very nice hike with lots of scenery. Did see a very large Bull Snake as well as a small woodpecker right beside the trail. I would certainly recommend this hike but not if conditions were wet because of the huge quantity mud, especially where the horses have walked.

Mostly dry trail with just a few patches of ice. Spikes probably not necessary. Pretty hike. Shadow Canyon portion will be closing for raptors Feb 1.
