Thoroughly enjoyed this trail! Spring wild flowers were out in force and the views were stunning!! Tough in some areas, but SO worth the climb!! I did the sheep trail, but found the intersection of summit and sheep easy to see and choose a path. Rock formations in mile 3 were amazing!! I’ll be back to take in the views from summit trail soon!

This is a pretty steep trail but offers great views about 3 miles up at the rock formations.

I need to echo Jesse Gilmer's comment. The summit is very disappointing. Perhaps I missed something, but there is no view at the top. Just a pile of rocks with a plaque saying that you're at the continental divide. There are nice views on thew way to the summit; once you get to an area where there are exposed rocks and view towards Loveland, your views have peaked. As you start to get to forested area again, you can be sure there will be nothing more spectacular if you keep going this way. My Garmin clocked in 9.47 miles, and that was with me walking in circles at the summit trying to make sure I didn't miss something... Trail shoes are sufficient. There are some rocky paths but no special equipment required. Also, when I first got to the trail head, the rangers told me that there was construction going on and that the construction workers told them that the trail was closed. However, they called in to somebody and that somebody told them the trail was open, so they let me go. Just an FYI - it's always disappointing to be turned around.

Great trail. Really well maintained. Summit was a little disappointing, but the views on the way up were wonderful. Fully in summer condition.

This is a great trail for people looking for a steady climb. It is nearly unrelenting in the climb but offers wonderful views, beautiful tree and rock formations. At the summit, hike northwest about 20-30 yards for a better view of the peaks to the west.

Assuming this is the Summit Trail.. this is more accurate with elevation and miles. Wonderful hike, it is an incline nearly the entire 4.6 miles up to the top. Great workout! Was surprised when I got to the top and did not see overlooking views of mountains. It was just a pile of rocks but still the hike was worth it for the views along the way

So it was a great workout trail! I’ve done other long hikes, and this one really got my heart pumping! The views, up until you hit mile 4, are astounding. Within the first mile or so, you reach the height of lots of surrounding mountains so the world beyond really opens up. Parts of it take you in and out of shade. I was attempting to summit Stone mtn, but I’m also confused as to wear the trail splits off. Sheep’s peak is pretty unremarkable and covered in trees, but it still gave a lovely sense of accomplishment.

Great hike. Relatively dry with spots of mud where snow has melted. About 500ft of packed snow on the trail between mile 3 and 4.

Beautiful afternoon hike on April 13th. First couple miles had light snow cover. The last couple had 12"+ of snow and if it wasn't for the only two other people we saw breaking trail we probably would have lost the trail. Now it's ready for anyone that would like a peaceful winter hike.

hiked on 4/14. beautiful sunny day after a snowfall, so great scenery. other than that the summit of sheep mountain is underwhelming. not much to see there. best views are in the first three miles. good trail for working out.

What happened? Suddenly this trail is on everyone’s radar...gotta love the internet, ruining absolutely every local spot.

Hey. What’s up? Thanks for reading my review. The trail is well maintained. After about a 2 mile climb, the trail runs along a ridgeline. This is the best part of the trails as far as views go. It conveniently located close to Fort Collins. I started the trail about 7:30 AM. Plenty of parking as it appears to not be the busiest trail. May come back to try Stone Mountain, but to be honest I could never find where that trail branched off. As others say, the view at the top isn’t anything.

The trail up was amazing and well maintained. The view at the top was non existent though. I would highly recommend doing Stone Mountain instead (follows the same trail, but off to the left) as it has a much better view. Or, do them both for a great 11.25 mile workout!

Great trail. The vista is obscured by trees, which is disappointing. Overall, a enjoyable hike.

Well maintained but steep uphills and downhills. Agreat in and out when looking for a solid up and the down. Lots of rocks! . I hike a lot and my ankles hurt at the end. Great workout. No views from summit but beautiful trail!

This was a fine trail. There were some pretty vies, but no real clearing to see the snow covered mountains in their full glory. Was still a nice hike.

Good trail for a good workout. Dogs are required to be on a leash for the first mile, but once you pass into the National Forest, they’re just required to be under voice control.

Nice gradual incline hike. Lots of hiking in the trees with a few decent views and some interesting rock formations. Few snowy patches on the trail but we were able to manage in hiking shoes. Got to the top where we found a log in a Nalgene bottle but sadly no clear view of the western slopes. It’s a good mountain to train on and an enjoyable hike but if your looking for a good summit view this isn’t the hike for you. It took us about 5.5 hrs to complete!

I did the Stone Mountain variation of this trail today. The trail is mostly snow-covered with higher elevations and more snow. Traction was unnecessary but could have been helpful in places. The trail was almost unused. Great trail, conditions and day.

Great climbing with gorgeous views. A little icy where the snow has melted and refrozen.
