Road to Shaw Lake open 8/4/20 not recommended for large RVs or trailers. Area around Shaw Lake is recovering from intense forest fire, but trees around shore survived. Route around lake is overgrown in spots and there are felled trees across the path, but not too difficult. Popular with anglers.

Running

Road was open to the trailhead. Very pretty, quiet lake with lots of wildflowers. Trail is overgrown in places and it’s easy to get a little off trail with the number of little man trails that go down to the lake or to campsites, but that didn’t take away from a really nice run. Would definitely do it again.

Hiking

The Road is closed at Shaw Lake so we had to abandon this hike unless we wanted to walk 7 miles to the trailhead. Bummer

Hiking

The Shaw Loop around the lake is easy. We took off on the Shaw Loop USFS trail that heads toward Lake Fork Trail. That portion is overgrown and there is lots of deadfall from the fire to go over. We came back on USFS Road 430, getting on the road where Lake Fork Trail crosses the road. There is a large washout in the road but it was no problem to walk around.
