Hiking

Wonderful hike with panoramic view of the Granby region at the top. As others have mentioned, there are many trees down on the path (28 by my count) that mostly require you to either climb over or under. The last stretch before getting to the watchtower has larger trees down that require you to get a bit off the trail altogether to circumvent. It’s a minor nuisance I wish the park rangers would clear up. If it wasn’t for this I’d give the hike 5 stars.

Decent amount of down trees. Didn’t see more than 5 people. Great trail. Would do again

The last quarter mile is an obstacle course of fallen trees. Lookout is closed but can still get a decent picture.

This trail was amazing and just enough of a challenge. There were a lot of down trees to navigate around. It took a little over 4 hours to complete. The views are most definitely worth the hike.

Great hike. Several trees down, along the way, but easily maneuvered. It was snowing the entire hike, so visibility was low, but the trail was easy to follow.

Lake views were pretty. Although tons of sirens on the lake made it not very peaceful. Lots of pine beetle kill.. much more than other trails. Top views were neat. Probably would not recommend.

Hiked the trail on 8/5/19. Lots on pine beetle damage but only 1 small tree across the trail. Obviously the trail is well maintained. Great views along the trail. Fire tower is closed and looks like it will stay closed (dry rot of its wood construction). Not buggy at all.

Nice hike near Grand Lake. Not very hard. Started at 9:00 and we were back down by 1:30 with time spent at the top. I would have rated this higher, but 1) you can't climb the tower, which would have made for some incredible views, and 2) the bark beetles have made quite an impact. Trees down everywhere. This probably won't surprise anyone familiar with the area, but we weren't expecting it.

The first quarter of the trail had beautiful views of the lake going up and on the way down. The way up has a decent continues incline. We had a picnic at the base of the fire lookout which is still closed. Great weather and almost too warm on June 8th.

RunningSnow

Did this as a trail run on Saturday (May 25). Worth noting that the distance here is round trip not one way. I ran from the Green Ridge campground and it was ten miles round trip. The trail does have a number of downed trees so expect these to slow down your run, unless you are a strong hurdler. The last 0.5 miles is mostly snow covered, but easily passible without traction devices. Views are amazing and also encountered three moose on the trail and saw evidence of several others.

Fun hike and views from the tower were awesome. Sad to see so much beetle kill. Especially good as our house is directly across the lake

Nice, mostly level hike for most of it. Lots of downed trees-maybe not good for someone with bad knees. You have to go over or under a fair amount of logs. Trail gets pretty narrow at spots. Overall a nice hike with great views of SM Lake.

Nice hike up the mountain. They have cleared the fallen trees, so easy passage. Beetle damage is pretty severe in some spots, but still great views. Took a 9 year old and 10 year old - they were able to make it with some stops.
