Beautiful scenic hike in Gateway Natural Area. From the parking lot you will walk along the Poudre River to the dam overflow at the halfway point. This will be the easiest section of the trail. There will be a steep incline to edge of the reservoir, watch your footing there are loose stones all long the way. The next half of the trail is challenging with several inclines, but the final destination makes it worth the hike. There are 3 or 4 ridges before you reach the diving rock. Depending on the year, and the depth of water, you can dive from this feature into the chilly water below. Very rewarding in the middle of the summer. The hike out feels much longer than the hike in, so make sure to bring plenty of water and a snack or lunch for the end. You will run into many other hikers or groups of hikers, especially during the peak summer months. Dogs are welcome, but be careful there are snakes and other wildlife.

Not much for shade anywhere. The water was covered in harsh smelling algae. Hiked 3 miles in hopes the water would get better but it didnt. Water might be better towards the beginning of the summer.

Beautiful, but not much of a hike and no room to walk around the reservoir. You have to walk a mile past the closed off bridge to start the hike.

Bring lots of water! On a hot day, this hike can be quite brutal! However, the cliff jumping does help cool you off and the atmosphere is very relaxing.

Nice trail great views. If it's hot you'll feel it, there's not a lot of shade

The hike itself is fairly easy, but the reservoir and view is outstanding. Cliff jumping is what I always come for and it never disappoints! Highly recommended. (Hidden rope swing back in the valley)
