Note: As of July 2019, the road is not passable due to an avalanche that occurred earlier in the year. From Crested Butte, you can drive 4.5 miles past the old mining town of Gothic. A sign is posted there that the road was closed up ahead. You can walk across snow covered road but it’s not drivable.

It’s not passable due to an avalanche that occurred earlier in the year. From Crested Butte, we drove 4.5 miles past the old mining town of Gothic. A sign was posted there that the road was closed up ahead. You can walk across snow covered road but it’s not drivable. Not being from this area, it was interesting to see the results of an avalanche. Some children enjoyed playing and sliding in the snow.
