Amazing trail! We hiked this on July 1, 2020. Beautiful waterfalls along the way. Patches of snow in the meadow as you approach the lake. We were a group if 6, ages 16-53. Some of our group struggled a little with the altitude, otherwise, no troubles and a spectacular lake at the end. Two days prior we hiked the Fryingpan overlook, also rated moderate, I would say this hike was much more challenging.

Pretty snowy at the end near the lake still, made it with just hiking boots but wish I had my crampons. Fished a bit at the lake as well, caught one on a streamer but the fish seemed pretty lethargic in general, maybe still too cold. Be careful walking around the lake in the snow, easy to posthole and get your leg between big rocks

My wife and I hiked this trail on July 21st on a two-night backpacking trip. The trail is well worn, somewhat rocky, with a few creek crossings near the apex. The trail climbs over 1,000 feet in less than a mile but then eases near the top. We made our camp on a cliff overlooking the lower lake, which was wonderful. caught several brook trout in both Lakes. We descended on the 23rd. On the 22nd and 23rd(weekdays) we only saw a couple of groups or individuals day hiking. This is a good trail and may provide better access to climbing Mount Savage than from Missouri Lakes basin.

Hiked to the first two lakes on Tuesday, July 23. Some snow but not that much. Lake water level for the first lake is high and just beautiful. Snow made it a little more difficult to find path in parts between first and second lakes but not that bad.

Hiked this 7-21-19 with my 9yr old son, 67yr old father, and my fiancé. This was definitely on the more difficult side due to the rocky trail and elevation. The view at the end was worth every step. Highly recommend this trail. As other people stated there are spots with snow and water crossings but it’s all manageable now.

Trail is dry until you hit 10500, patches of snow that turn into complete snow up to the lake, be prepared for water crossings and a snowy trek until melts more. .

Still some snow patches. We lost the trail a few times going to the second lake, but eventually found it. Beautiful scenery.

Great trail, bit of a long drive to get to. Starts out going up right away, about 2 hours to 1st lake. Probably one of the prettiest settings in the valley.

Loved this trail, easy enough to do with the kids. Next time I will do the loop & go to Carter Lake from the top. Bring a rain jacket.
