Left a nice pair of keen hiking boots in the parking lot. If anyone happens to find them, my number is 7654918059

Hello! Bit of a stretch but if anyone sees dark blue and black hiking shoes, please contact me. My number is 5416617092. I would really appreciate it. Very awesome spot by the way.

You can really freestyle your way up the dunes as they are always shifting, although stick to the ridges.

Hard to find actual “trail”

Not a real trail - just a trek around the flat part of the sand. Good stop to get close to the dunes but would not recommend as a hike

after a big summer thunderstorm which gave the dunes a crust that helped when going up them; added to the stream and made for really high winds. almost impossible to face the wind with the sand blowing and made the thin air more of a factor (ran up and down some dunes). Extremely fun and glad I changed into high military-style boots with Vibram and Goretex to keep sand and water out.

Quite an amazing place. Worth climbing up to the tallest dune to get a good view.

It was great but had to cut short the hike due to heavy winds (40-50mph) at the Sand Dunes. If you are going here, try the sand boarding and skating. It was fun.

Unique “trail”. Didn’t include my recording because I kind of just floated about the dunes. So many bus loads of kids here... had to walk a bit to find the famed “silence” the quietest national park boasts

Trail was hard to find - especially where you cross the river. We ended up getting a bit turned around and added almost 2 miles to the hike. The dunes can be very challenging and sap your energy. A 6.8 mile hike felt closer to 10 miles due to the sand. Overall - totally worth it. Such a beautiful place and it is impossible to understand the scale of it in pictures. Absolutely recommend!

The first half, walking along the creek, is easy and fun. The second half, walking back on the dunes, is challenging, but so worth it. Scaling up and across steep dunes made for excellent views and was definitely something to be proud of. It was a beautiful way to get the full experience!

Did this hike in 2013. Mostly you pave your own way up the creek and circling back over the dunes. Great experience on one of the few true dunes in U.S. We also took sleds down the dunes. It was a fun trip with my boys.

The first half (heading counter-clockwise) may have been light to moderate, but coming back across the dunes was hard! Literally walking up the steepest, off-camber walls of sand, trying not to look down, getting breathless within seconds - very taxing and tedious but worth the work! We had the most amazing views and the feeling of being on a vast desert mountain in the sky made it seem otherworldly! Walking along the creek barefoot at the end was the perfect ending to an amazing hike! Expect: wind, lots of sand in your shoes, a feeling as though there isn't really a "trail" to follow because there isn't really (using this app in real time helped). Wear: gaiters, a hat, lots of sunscreen. Bring: strong right hamstrings (or left if going clockwise).
