Beautiful Canyon with Red Sandstone, grassy fields and ponds. Rock climbing is only allowed if you get a permit from the Garden of the Gods visitor center and with proper equipment. The Garden of the Gods is world famous, but two miles south of the Garden "Red Rock Canyon Open Space" invites hikers to enjoy the same geological strata in a much less "Victorian" setting. The land now included in the "Open Space" has been in use for at least 9,000 years, where because of its proximity to Fountain Creek early American settlers made their homes. In the more recent past, the Dakota Sandstone layer was used to quarry building materials, and portions of the park received trainloads of gold ore from the Cripple Creek mines to be refined. Since 2003 the city of Colorado Springs has developed this property into one of its premier parks, containing nearly 10 miles of connected trails suitable for hikers, bikers, and horse back riders (some trails are restricted to only one type of adventurer). The park is open year round from dawn to dusk, and with such varied terrain, you'll never tire of visiting and creating new ways of enjoying this delightful topography.

My first visit to Colorado Springs. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the trail and accessibility. Beautiful!

Overall a great place to hike; not too difficult and early in the morning it's not crowded. There are some people who don't keep their dogs on a leash and who don't pick up after them.

A good family trail. First trail with our 4 month old in a front facing carrier and he tolerated one hour of hiking.

I wish i could give it more stars because we love this place for walking our dogs. It’s nicer in the late winter/ early spring because it gets too crowded in the summer with not many places left to park. It’s also very scenic once you go past the immediate area around the entrance and the lake. The only reason I give it so little stars is because someone we know had their car windows smashed and everything stolen out of it when he was there for roughly an hour during daytime. There were plenty of people around who could have called the police about it or something, but nobody seemed to care at all as it wasn’t their car or stuff... Needless to say, we won’t be going there anytime soon.

Gave it a 3 only compared to some of the other great trails in the area. But it’s a pretty area with a lake and some waterfoul. It has some interesting rock formations and distant views of the Garden of the Gods. Great walk and not very steep.

Such a fun place to visit. The trails were not too challenging. This was the first hike I’ve done since coming to Colorado a couple days ago. Perfect for those who haven’t quite acclimated yet.

Love the trails here. None are very challenging. There are many many trails to choose from, you can walk right among the rocks, out in the open flat grassy area, or under the tall trees near the stream. The rock formations are large and impressive and from several trails you can see a beautiful view of Garden of the Gods. Dogs are allowed and there is a new, large, and fully fenced off lease dog trail. There is also a very nice area dedicated to mountain biking trail practice. It has several obsticles and ever a teeter totter you can ride over. In the morning the trails are frequented by horseback riders and rock climbers. The only real drawback is that due to its being so easily accessible as it is right in town, Red Rock Open Space is usually very busy. However, the further you get from the parking lot and especially as you get on the back trails by the stream you see fewer and fewer people.

Extremely dog friendly. The lake was absolutely beautiful! Definitely coming back soon as we got a late start and turned around a mile in due to the weather getting a bit too hot for our pups. Keep in mind there is very little shade for your pups as you walk. Early morning visit on hot days with pups would be best.

We wanted a easy hike on a beautiful day and this was a great pick. The parking was an issue but all trails were clearly marked and easy to follow. We were afraid it was gonna be really crowded but it wasn’t too bad.

Love this place. It never gets old. Absolutely beautiful. There are several different trails to follow and if you want you could spend hours exploring here.

The hike was awesome - so beautiful and not to difficult but a nice energetic hike. Unfortunately the parking lot is not safe - if you go make sure there is nothing inside your car that can be seen - I had a black bag on the floor of the back seat - thieves broke the window and grabbed the bag nothing else just quick and easy for he low lives. Did the same thing to another car - same color, make, and model has mine - coincidence or targeting - not sure but be safe and leave everything at home or in your hotel. Be safe and enjoy

Such a beautiful hike. We take our three year old and he can manage the trails and rock climb really well. Great views. Can get windy because of location so dress in some layers. We have only gone on weekdays and it still can be crowded so weekends would probably be hard parking wise.

Really like this trail there is some great scenery. Nice rock climbing to. You will find people climbing all over the place. Did my first climb here. Unforgettable experience.

really easy trails. the quarry was cool. I've done section 16 before and that's the only tough trail. FYI no shade if you go in summer but it's beautiful time of year to hike now.

A great area to explore that is close to Colo Springs. There are many trails that weave in and out of each other and many social trails as well. There is a gentle incline if you follow the trails to the south end of the park that provide some very nice views. the trails are well maintained and wide for the most park. It can get crowded so plan accordingly with regards to parking.
