Hiking

Gr8 conditions - no wind at the saddle and blue bird sky. Had yak tracks - likely not necessary with moderate tread. One other hiking couple and two duos of xcntry skiers. 3-4 other friendly dogs. A great easy hike gentle up and back down. Worth the effort for sure.

Fun! Definitely challenging in the snow, but do-able and worth it. We had a blast. Took approx 2 hours. We were the only hikers. All other trail goers were cross country skiing.

I missed the cut off and just continued the wrong way and then on the way back hit a short part of the mine trail. It was beautiful I had snowshoes but didn’t seem necessary.

Hiking

This was a great winter hike, although I think we went a different way than it shows here. Our round trip was probably 2.5 or 3 miles from where we parked to the mine. It’s a slow, relatively easy climb - I did it with a 9 month old on my back and my wife did it while pregnant. I would recommend spikes or snowshoes though because the trail is just slick packed snow.

HikingGreat!Snow

Great hike with awesome view at the top. We did it with just normal hiking boots and it was pretty easy. We didn’t need crampons or snow shoes but there were plenty of people wearing them. The road up to the trail was good, we had a small rental car without AWD/4WD and it was fine. Definitely a good winter hike!

Snow packed and beautiful. We busted out the new snowshoes! Not super busy today (weekday). Saw a bunch of sweet pups, some cross country skiers, and some fat tire bikers! At the mine we hiked a little higher up to the tree line.

Gradual slight incline on a wide, well maintained, easy to follow path. Great to do with visitors from out of town. Old mine at the top with a pretty view. Recommend!

Nice and easy trail if you’re looking for something light but with a great ending (the abandoned mine)! We did the hike with microspikes. Trail was pretty packed down. Could have done in snowshoes too. Lots of people on cross country skis - looked fun!

Cross-country skiingGreat!

We loved our early morning majestic views from this trail. The trail was wide and spacious and fairly easy for our house guest who is learning how to cross-country ski. The history lesson was a bonus for all of us!

Some great views but honestly not the absolute best that Colorado has to offer. Some of the best views are from the Mine remnants at the top. Steep!

Easy up and back trail with one piece of mining equipment at the top. Several descriptions of the mining operation. And several other trails at the top of to take back down as alternates. Great views from the top. A few other hikers on the road. No wildlife other than a few birds. Definitely a cold hike with no sunlight hitting the road in the morning.
