Starts as an easy climb through the forest and quickly ascends above tree line, providing stunning views of the towns of Fraser and Winter Park as well as the Winter Park ski resort. After two switchbacks you round a bend offering views of James Peak, Perry Peak and surrounding mountains. The pass itself looks down on Heart Lake. From there you may continue on to the summit of James Peak.

Overall this was a very nice day hike! The road to get to the trailhead is extremely rocky so if you don’t have an SUV or truck I would not advise. Once you got above tree line the views were amazing. Easy trial to follow and not crowded at all! Once you got to the top it becomes very windy be prepared.

This was one of the most beautiful hikes we have done. The weather held up, and the fall colors were just beginning. The hike is along what looks like an old wagon road all the way down from the pass. The views of Winter Park and the Fraser Valley were outstanding, and once near the pass, the James Peak and the other mountains were right there. On the other side of the pass, the terrain changed and Heart Lake looked very cool. Really liked this hike. Round trip for the hike was a little over 3 hours. One important note: the road to the trailhead is very rough for the last 5-6 miles. High clearance or 4-wheel drive is a necessity.

Can't access trail head

7/19/18-The road to the TH is rough (high clearance—consider renting a 4 wheeler—would be much better than our F250 truck!). Hike was beautiful—everything we love about a good mountain hike—wildflowers, beautiful parks, breathtaking views, dog friendly. Towards the pass some very steep drops off the trail will require heeling dogs or putting on leash. Only saw 2 other hikers, and 2 mountain bikers. Drove up to Rollins (Corona) pass after our hike—the old railroad bed. Interesting history, and more beautiful views of Fraser Valley to the west, and the start of Boulder Creek which flows east.

Corona Pass road closed at approximately 5 mi due to snow runoff and road damage, but saw two moose and beautiful views on the drive up.

I've hiked this trail a few times. Its an awesome area, there are a few other trail junctions along the way that are worth checking out as well. In winter Rogers Pass trail is usually pretty easy to follow until you get up by Rogers Peak Lake and then anything goes, most tracks aren't going to be on the trail, and some of them just go off in random directions. Definitely recommend bringing GPS and topo map.
