Pleasant surprise of a hike. Initially starts off as a dirt road with decent views, but after about 25 mins takes you to the trail head and into the woods. We only had enough time to hike in an additional hour, but there was low traffic for starting at 1 PM on a Sunday. Dogs loved too. I’d say for the part we experienced, it was on the easier side of moderate.

Parking area is small; I was last to squeeze in at 7:20 am on a Saturday. Trail starts just past the top of the parking area, where there was a gate and Road Closed sign. It was over an hour before I saw another human. There are some blind corners when returning up, so hikers, stay alert for bikers. Also saw horses. Lots of shade in the middle but open at the ends - I did not end up doing the whole trail because it was getting pretty hot and appeared that there would be no more shade after the awesome views of Roxborough are appreciated. I went down to a little bench and had a snack, then ventured down a little more before deciding to turn back at approximately just over 6 miles in.

I really enjoyed this Trail - hiked on Memorial Day. My Strava came out closer to 16.5 mi and took me just over 6 hours. Although some good elevation gains, the Trail is not overly steep ever, and I appreciated the soft pine needles under my feet as the Trail is not that rocky either. Great views/vistas as you get close to Roxborough.

The trail doesn't quite have scenic views but it is a good moderate trail nonetheless. If you plan on continuing to Roxborough park via Sharptail trail, bring some protection against the sun because the trail is pretty much open space all the way.

*The map shows it’s right before rampart range road, but it’s actually right after (on the right)* Great trail! Very wide so great for groups, and you get some cardio with the hills but nothing too strenuous. Little shade so bring lots of water.

2nd review. Finally came back to finish this trail. It’s a great hike. We took it out to the turn around but then kept going to Roxborough Park. Beautiful views and a good moderate hike. Great trail 1/12/18. Fun and very few people.
