I was there a few days ago. It's not closed. Seems the 1-star reviews are being left by locals who don't want outsiders coming in. I found the hot springs to be pretty decent for a primitive location. There's a decent sized "hot" pool that runs down to some shallow "warm" pools. I'd go here again. Really easily accessible from the road. I walked 3 minutes in flip flops.
GO! It is definitely OPENED! Super easy to get to also. There is a trail that goes straight down from the parking lot if you want to get there about a minute faster, but if you walk a little further down the road there is a very easy, level trail. The parking lot is small though. We were in an rv so we had to park in the turn out-right off of the highway. But still no big deal. The actual tub and area surrounding it was very clean and the view was beautiful! It started raining as we got there but that just added to the beauty. A group of people showed up shortly after we arrived and asked that we let them know when we left and they hung out by the river until we did (about 15 minutes later). I feel like that was very polite and what everyone should do if you happen to go and people are already there. This stop was one of the best parts of our Colorado camping vacation!
I honestly can not believe the bad reviews about this place. This place was one of the best stops on our weekend trip to Colorado. We stopped here on our way to telluride and were pleasantly surprised to find that it was just a short distance from where we parked. (I wore flip flops to get from the car to the hot springs and made it just fine) although it would’ve been easier in tennis shoes. The hot springs itself though i found extremely nice especially for being natural. The area was clear and clean and plenty of room and right by the river. Will definitely be stopping here more often.
