There are about 5 miles of soft surface trail. Reservoir Ridge is the northern end of the 8.2 mile Foothills Trail. The Foothills Trail connects Pineridge, Maxwell and Reservoir Ridge natural areas. Trail markers show you the way. Biking on the Foothills Trail is for the experienced cyclist. Visitors to this foothills natural area enjoy its rugged trails, access to the 8.2 mile Foothills Trail, wildlife viewing opportunities and a feeling of remoteness- all close to Fort Collins. Youll see dramatic rock outcroppings, grasslands, mountain mahogany shrubs and a few ponderosa pines. Views of the city, the foothills and Horsetooth Reservoir are great from the trails!

Starting at the parking lot off Overland Trail Drive it's a nice easy flat hike to the foothills. There's no shade so bring extra water on a hot day. On the Foothills trail you'll see the open space is abutted by private farms, but gorgeous views of the foot hills. You don't want to miss the view from the top. Awesome views of Fort Collins and the Reservoir from up here. There are pit toilets at the parking lot off Overland and Michaud Spur. Birds included redwing black birds as there are some marshy areas and a little creek. Trail is open for hikers, runners, dogs, and bikes so keep one ear bud out.

Hiked this trail yesterday with my dog. Great weather and serene views. Saw a few wild birds and lots of chunky bumblebees. Good hike and parking was easy to find too.

5/28/18 - We parked in Bellvue. Hiked all the way to Claymore Lake and back. It was roughly 6 miles.
Recently we've experienced some rains. Everywhere you looked was so nice and green. Saw a variety of wild flowers. We hiked on a cloudy day. Making it a perfect day to hike this trail!...there's no tree coverage.
There was lots of loose rock. Passed bikers, joggers, hikers, and ones on horseback.

Great trail. if you're looking for a long hike this is perfect a lot of up hill and a lot of rocks on the trail but that didn't bother us. we will come back. Also a 3 year old was hiking with with us and she made it.

Well graded, moderate to easy hiking path that ends with great views of Fort Collins and Horsetooth Reservoir. A bit crowded with mountain bikers but they were all very polite. Closer to 6 miles for the entire loop.

Crowded Sunday. Too many bikes. Plus dogs. Moderate terrain. Rocky. Open space, so sunny and warm even on a winter day.

Solid on the low moderate end. Unfortunately, technology and my intent to track the trek with the app was basic straight line a-b, not flowing with the trail and distance as I'd hoped.

On the easier end of moderate. Nice, low-key hike with good views of Fort Collins and Horse Tooth Reservoir. Saw lots of deer as well!

This trail is good for an out and back (basically) quickie if you don’t have the time to go to Lory or Horsetooth Mountain Park. No shade on most of the trail so it’s hot in the summer.

Easy for flatlanders as very gradual increase in altitude. Great for dog. Not crowded.

Took the dogs out and did about 8 miles. Really easy trail, but no shade or water. We did a key shape loop on the foothills trail, but there are other trails that intersect with it so keep an eye on your map and trail markers. We saw a few deer hanging out on the back side too. Overall, very nice trail and we'll definitely be going back again.

I hike this trail at least once a week. Very rocky, but a nice elevation gain. I've seen deer the past 4 times I have gone.

Parts of this trail are ROCKY! I felt like I was staring at my feet a lot of the time. There were a lot of deer, so it was fun to watch them when I wasn't watching my feet.

An enjoyable, easy hike. Some parts of the trail were closed, but regardless, a nice day outing.

Niced scenic trail in February & easy to access. The trails west of Horsetooth were closed. Some fairly steep areas for beginners but doable. Overall enjoyable.

Kind of a boring little hike. Very narrow and busy.

This was a fairly easy and mostly level hike. There were small sections of it that had lots of small rocks and moved under foot. Other than that a good hike.

Saw quite a few people on the farm access road leading to main trail; kind of petered out after that. Great views of Horsetooth and the eastward sprawl from the top with easy access to continue on the foothills trail.

Great little hike but don't let the photos deceive you! There is no access to water (only one little wetland stream towards the beginning). This hike overlooks the resevoir but does not touch water. Very flat to start (first mile and a half) until you reach the foothills. Steady incline with a couple of flat areas. The great views are seen on the other side of the ridge starting by the interpretive signs. Some shady spots but very sparse. There is also a very scenic part of the ridge in the middle of the loop where some of that sandstone sticks out of the ridge. Little less than 5 miles took me 3 hours with plenty of stops in between.

Large section at the start of the trail is flat and goes through the meadows with much of the same view. The loops section was pretty rocky so we unfortunately had to watch our step more than the view, but overall a pleasant hike for being so close to town. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to do this hike again though.

Moderately easy hike. Long flat stretch going in and coming back to the parking lot. The foothills were nice though, nice terrain change and outlooks on the far side of the loop. I'd go again for a not-too-challenging hike.

Easy trail for a long or short hike. The trail is pretty narrow with lots of different traffic including runners, bikers, and other hikers. Very dog friendly! Great views of Fort Collins.

Best if you start from the Michaud trailhead as if you start from the Overland trail head you are going to do just a lot of flat dirt trail walking until you reach the more interesting Foothills trail. Once you do though, it's a pretty interesting hike. nice views and not as many bikes as you encounter on trails to the south.

I've been on this trail twice. It's easy to get to and has plenty of trail and beautiful views. however watch for rattle snakes

I think this is the one I've done. The sign called it Reservoir Ridge so perhaps this isn't the right (it's not listed as I read it). Still, if you find this one at the north end of the Horsetooth Reservoir, it's quite lovely. We hiked it close to dusk so the temperature was great and the sunset was awesome.
