A great hike, but go early to beat the heat.

Starting from the campground on the east end, we made it about halfway through this before stopping for a snack and then turning back because of threatening weather. Perfect timing, because the rain started just before we got back to the car. This trail has a decent amount of up and down, although not huge elevation change at any point. There are some wonderful views, although the lake itself is out of sight for a lot of it. It's well-marked and lightly travelled. Mostly juniper and pinon trees, so not much in the way of shade. Glad we did it in spring because I have a feeling it gets pretty hot.

Nice, well marked and maintained trail. Somewhere around 1300 vertical feet with all the hills climbed back and forth. A nice workout in the Trinidad Lake State Park with great views of the lake and surrounding hills.

Well marked trail with great views of Trinidad Lake, Fisher Peak, the Spanish Peaks, and the Culebra Range. Was hot with little shade for most of the trail. I only went about half way. A lot of climbs and descents. Trekking poles, which I had, really help.

Lots of ups and downs with a few steep areas. Take trekking poles if you want to save your knees. Pretty views of the lake from time to time and gorgeous cacti flowers. I only encountered 2 people on the trail during the 3.5 hour hike.

I only did 4 out of the 8.5 miles. There were a few steep parts and a lot of flat. Lots of flowers and lizards! occasional view of the lake!

Nice trail, with some mild elevation gain, in the pines with views of Trinidad Lake and Fishers Peak. I will definitely do it again!

we did this trail last June when it was 90plus degrees. it is not that easy and were use to long hikes. Maybe heat had something to do with it but prefer hikes that start and finish same place. this is advertised as 4.6 but that means 4.6 back to the campground.

This is a great trail but WARNING it is NOT a loop trail! We left late in the day expecting it to be a loop trail and had to get a ride back to our car when we found out we were 4.5 miles from the start of the trail.

very technical sections, and very dynamical, more of a thru or a out and back. Extremely fun. Difficult level.

Easy to follow trail with little elevation change. The views were alright. If you’re looking for a stroll, this is your place, but if you want a challenge, this is a no go.

This is a great ride, very peaceful. The views of the lake and of Fishers Peak are simply amazing. There are a few small valleys that offer a chance to get the blood flowing, the climbs coming out of these valleys is very easy. This is all west bound from the Camp ground. I have yet to ride it back from the Cokedale side. I ride this trail every chance I get.

Very steep hike up and down. Main issues were how hard the trails were to see. My wife and I ran off the trail 3-4 times because the trail essentially is a couple rocks here and there and is hard to see
