Beautiful Canyon with Red Sandstone, grassy fields and ponds. Rock climbing is only allowed if you get a permit from the Garden of the Gods visitor center and with proper equipment. The Garden of the Gods is world famous, but two miles south of the Garden "Red Rock Canyon Open Space" invites hikers to enjoy the same geological strata in a much less "Victorian" setting. The land now included in the "Open Space" has been in use for at least 9,000 years, where because of its proximity to Fountain Creek early American settlers made their homes. In the more recent past, the Dakota Sandstone layer was used to quarry building materials, and portions of the park received trainloads of gold ore from the Cripple Creek mines to be refined. Since 2003 the city of Colorado Springs has developed this property into one of its premier parks, containing nearly 10 miles of connected trails suitable for hikers, bikers, and horse back riders (some trails are restricted to only one type of adventurer). The park is open year round from dawn to dusk, and with such varied terrain, you'll never tire of visiting and creating new ways of enjoying this delightful topography.

A great area to explore that is close to Colo Springs. There are many trails that weave in and out of each other and many social trails as well. There is a gentle incline if you follow the trails to the south end of the park that provide some very nice views. the trails are well maintained and wide for the most park. It can get crowded so plan accordingly with regards to parking.

We did one of the black trails, challenging but fun, smoothed out to and intermediate trail. Great hike.

Nice and easy trail, but the map is difficult to read and it is hard to gage how long each trail is without a map.

Lots of beautiful rock formations and side trails to take. Almost level easy hiking, good for the whole family.

Easy and lovely day-hiking, and there are plenty of easy biking trails for medium (2nd or 3rd grade) kids and up. The walking trails are easy, and plenty of rocks to scramble. Some of the biking trails are a bit more difficult. The bike park / activity area between the parking lots is a great place to polish some skills and have some easy fun!

Awesome! Trails are well maintained with plenty of places to go off and climb/explore. A few good spots with wildflowers. Also saw an area for biking (ramps and things) as well as an off-leash dog trail. Something for everyone there!

Beautiful hike around the red rocks. It was pretty trafficked but it was really nice to see so many people out and enjoying themselves and the sites. The rock formations are breathtaking!
