The Red Hill Recreation Area is a series of short trails that lead to the Mushroom Rock overlook. A great hike and a great view of the Crystal and Roaring Fork Valleys.

Cool trail right out my backyard. Kinda crowded. Very pretty, very easy. It takes like an hour or less at a good pace.

Beautiful views, interesting vegetation and terrain (red rocks and soil). Recommend the hike if you are in the area.

Great Hike - lots of options. Someone said this was insta worthy and they were right! And it was the perfect swap for hanging lake; where we unfortunately were turned away by rangers due to the lot being full.

Great hike with my 2.75 year old grandson. We took the trail to the right, which is not steep. Didn't go to the top. We hike for 2.5 hrs starting from the parking lot. Busy Sunday afternoon. Very popular trail. Lots of people using it. Hikers and mtn. bikers Ready to do it again with grandson.

This is a great hike! The parking lot gets very busy on the weekends, so go early. I took the 3 Gulch Trail up the mountain. I'm a beginning hiker, so it took me about an hour and half to reach the top and Mushroom Rock. The 3 Gulch Trail leads to the Blue Ribbon Trail which makes a loop at the top of the mountain. The best views and the real "top" is Mushroom Rock. There isn't a sign from the Blue Ribbon Trail to tell you to keep going up to Mushroom Rock, but if you follow the only trail that goes up from there, you'll see it.

Another option is to take the steep and intense Mushroom Rock Trail straight to the top. It's much, much shorter, but you will have to scale a few rocks, and you will be very near the edge of the mountain some times. I took this route down and it was short but scary at times.

Finally, if you take the 3 Gulch Trail up, be prepared for quite a few mountain bikers. It's the main trail they use and I had to step off to the edge of the cliff in a few places to let them pass.

Overall, an amazing hike with fantastic views of Mt. Sopris and Carbondale. Highly recommended!

This is a great trail system with tons of loop options. My favorites are Skeeter Ridge, Roller Coaster, and Blue Ribbon. Can't wait to get back and try the trails that are further out.
