I really liked this trail. Not too heavily trafficked on a Saturday (we got there around 10am) and a nice steady incline to a great view of the gultch.

Beautiful views, cool history, seemed a bit harder than "moderate."

Rating as a family hiker with 50 lb. dog in tow. Maybe was a bit more aggressive to start with the vertical incline for my 9 and 6 year olds but they pushed through easily to the amazing views at the continental divide overlook. The additional mile we pushed them for to view the active train line didn’t offer enough that we would do it again but the main rattlesnake gulch trail to the Crags hotel and viewpoint offered phenomenal spots to take in the sights. Definitely a moderate hike but one you can do with sneakers so long as you’re cognizant of all the rock - lose, embedded; large medium and small. $9 car parking fee to enter and park a vehicle in the state park but 100% worth it. Many folks climbing throughout the park as well. We arrived around 8:30 on Saturday and were able to park about 300 feet from the trailhead.
