Wonderful, isolated trail in beautiful part of Colorado. We arrived late in the day and found a spot to set up camp about 1 mile in. First 1-1.5 miles are quite steep, then levels out for a while. Definitely a moderately difficult hike due to pitch, but worth the effort. Luckily there were still plenty of wildflowers in bloom at the end of Sept, and the lakes are gorgeous. EXTREMELY buggy, so go prepared. They’re aggressive and will bite through clothing.

A moderate hike up to the upper lake provided a beautiful and secluded spot for backpacking/camping. There are no fish in the upper lake at this time, but some in the lower (we heard). It was indeed very buggy, especially by the upper lake. You can also walk north from the upper lake and catch an unmarked (but easy to locate) trail to hike up the ridge for beautiful views of both lakes.
