Old Spanish Trail is a 13.3 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Grand Junction, Colorado that features a river and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and bird watching and is best used from May until September.
Saw a pair of Bald Eagles on the Bluff. Lots of side trails. Most will come up on the Alltrails map. You can add miles or take short cuts. Always beautiful views of The Gunnison River and the Bluffs. Hike, bike or horseback riding. Dogs allowed.
The Old Spanish Trail offers no shade anywhere between the two trailheads. Views are distant. The Gunnison River Bluff Trail offers multiple beautiful views of the Gunnison River and Bluffs. I hiked with a 20lb pack. 65 year old hiker.
Completed part of Old Spanish and Gunnison River Bluff trails. nice view of the river and canyon. Tons of side trails.
Trail was good! Colors were still visible along the River. Not too hot, got up to 70. My only disappointment was broken glass and other trash. There was a lot of glass. It could become a fire issue at some point. It will not be an easy task to clean up either Walked from one trailhead to the other; mostly along the Gunnison Bluffs! Great day!
great trail, easy to navigate and get your HR up. Saw a coyote while nearing the river. Easy and accessible to strollers, although it is very hot, rocky, and not an ideal trail for kids due to terrain. cactus everywhere, concern for rattlesnakes crossed my mind while running.
I live in the neighborhood and was wondering why this trail has become more popular, after reading the description I see why. Great place to trail run, nice views of Gunnison River if you go far enough, but be warned- THERE IS NO FOREST!!!! I don’t know why the description says there is, BUT THERE IS NO FOREST and NO SHADE!!!
Lots of parking. About a 10 minute walk through neighborhood to what I consider the trail.
