It's not a trail for seeing the black canyon. I think it's for seeing the plants. A little steep and I'm tired when going up.

Great little trail that allows views of the canyon from in the canyon. Saw a mule deer on our hike.

This hike was the perfect length and allows you to view the canyon from many awesome perspectives. Even some of the rock walls you hike right next to have a spectacular black, rust and silvery coloring to them. Beautiful!

Good trail with great views of the canyon.

Great views of the Gunnison river, and not totally exposed. The Oaks give some much needed shade. Awesome perspective of the canyon wall.

Nice hike from the visitor center partially down into the canyon under the cover of trees. Just be careful, a tree branch grabbed ahold of my sunglasses from the top of my head and I had to make my way down the steep canyon to get them. Some decent views of the canyon floor from a few points. Not many people on the trail.

I began this hike early and saw/met no other hikers on it. It is easy to follow, but does have some good steep spots. It has good overlooks of the canyon, too!

Best approach is to take the right fork if you are coming from the visitor center and come up from the western side of the trail.

Some nice views of the canyon from the trail but they are easy to replicate from Rock Rim Road if you are not up for the hike. But this hike is a good hike if you want to explore below the rim without committing to a full descent into the canyon.

Beautiful views!! Went in March and it was very snowy. But if you stop at the visitor center you can rent yaktrax for free. They helped immensely! The trail does have a few steep inclines that posed a fun challenge with the snow - again have some sort of boot/shoe grip if in winter months. Couldn’t stop smiling during my hike. I will be coming back for sure.

Trail in good condition. Starts at visitor center. This a loop trail. The right hand entrance at the star of trail is a steeper descent than the left side which uses switchbacks to go down. Trail slippery when wet.

Nice 2 mile loop offering great views of the Gunnison River Gorge. You can add an in and out to the Gunnision River via the Black Canyon of the Gunnison Wilderness trail but will need a permit

Definitely not flat, but great views of the canyon. Around 3 miles round trip.

Pearl short trail. I combined this trail with uplands and rim rock to make a 3 mile loop trail back to the parking lot at the south rim visitor center where I had started. Crowded, so go early or late. Only took me an hour to do the loop of all three trails. Abundant wildlife and fauna.

We took a right when we came to the fork in the trail. Following the Gunnison Route, or River Access, we climbed down into the canyon to camp over night (make sure to get a permit). This was a very strenuous hike down and there are no trail blazes, only cairns left by previous climbers. The view was amazing and definitely worth the climb, but make sure to be in shape and have some navigation skills before you go!

Very short but a great view of the canyon! The visor center has great information too.

Did this last week as part of a wilderness route to the bottom of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. As noted, it give some great views, as it plunges a few hundred feet before seperating from the Gunnison Route to climb back up. It was worth the exertion in the afternoon to get some great shots of outcrop the visitor center's overlook is on.

Took us a little less than an hour to do this. It was hot and it can be strenuous because of the elevation climb on the way back. The trail offers some great views from a little ways down into the canyon.
