Fun easy hike. The lake is nice but just past the lake is a great view of the valley.

Overall amazing trail. From wildflowers to water this hike has it all!
Cover yourself in gasoline, the mosquitoes were swarming in hordes. Deep Woods Off did very little to ward of the attacks. beautiful lake, worth the hike.
Trail is clear of snow. Such a gem of a hike. The meadows look beautiful now and the lake is gorgeous. Lots of fish in the lake as well. Follow the trail around the lake so you don’t miss the overlook.
Hiked this trail last week and could not get to lake due to snow. We treked through a lot of it using GPS to stay on trail but when we reached the base of that one mountain towards end (Stunning views!) the snow got too deep on last leg of trail. Going to hit it again next month! You can still make it now if you bring snow shoes! And a good GPS and download Satellite Imagery beforehand. Awesome hike!!
It's still winter at Nolan Lake. I completed the hike on July 3rd, but snow was still quite deep above 10,700 ft. I often lost the trail because of the snow, but my Garmin, map, and compass saved the day. I had an early start and was able to walk on the snow in most cases. Lake was still 90% covered in ice. I'd give it another 10-14 days. Still one of my favorite hikes. 5 stars when the snow melts!
We left about 1pm. Parts of the trail have a creek flowing down, parts have fallen trees and there is still a lot of snow. Still, the area is beautiful and we were happy to be there. A huge thunder clap turned us around, otherwise we would have continued to the lake. I've hiked it before and the lake is beautiful. Maybe wait a couple weeks and start earlier. :)
Beautiful hike! It was moderate to difficult but the views up top were totally worth the climb.
Started from the road. 7 miles up to Lake and back. Definitely not for the novice but worth it. Lake is small but beautiful.
This hike is moderate to difficult. I used hiking poles today for the first time and was SO happy that I did! Some stretches of the trail are very steep and have small rocks that move and there are a few boggy spots to traverse, so the poles were helpful. The lake is gorgeous, but be certain to continue past to the overlook (about 100+ yards more. It is very cold at the lake so bring a warm jacket. Going back down was rough on my knees. Should have worn my brace.
Beautiful hike but wouldn't consider it hard. Once you start up the road the trailhead will be on your left approx 1/4 mile up the road be vigilant the sign is easy to miss. Abundance of trout in the lake
Up, up, up to a beautiful lake. Very pleasant hike. I would do it again in a heartbeat.
This hike is more of an adventure! Moderate Difficulty. Slow and steady will get you to the lake IF you pay special attention to the small signs. If you find yourself on a double track trail? Turn around you missed a sign. This is a single track trail that will bring you to a beautiful alpine lake. Start EARLY because weather will come in the afternoon. Not too many insects are up at the top. No cell service 95% of the way up. Limited cell service at the late near the waterfall. It's a all day adventure few people on the trail. Cheers!
Saw a mountain goat by the lake! Hard trail but so worth the effort. Plus going back is all downhill. Had so much fun here the views are so awesome.
Great hike for September. Dry. Great views of leaves. Loved it. Bro said sneakers ok. Not! Plenty of rocks.
Did this hike 2 days ago in prep for hunting season and it was spectacular! Fairly steep in spots so definitely wear the lace up boots. Starts by the town of Folford south of Eagle. Trail begins by passing through an abandoned mining town (upper town) and has a few nice waterfalls along the trail, a few scree fields and mossy pine sections. Amazing view from the lake. There is a trail that circles 2/3 of the lake and you just have to navigate the rocks the last bit. Don't forget your fly rod! Lots of brook trout feeding at the surface on midges. There are a few smaller lakes above Nolan lake with New York Mountain as it's backdrop. Gorgeous! There's also a cool story to read about a lost mine up there "the lost mine on slate mountain"
This is a difficult but beautiful lake hike!
