Niedrach Nature Trail and Gazebo Boardwalk is a 3.5 mile out and back trail located near Commerce City, Colorado that features a lake and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, and birding and is accessible year-round.
This is one of the best trails in Barr Lake State Park. The boardwalk is a neat area to see birds and walk through giant trees. There are a lot of mosquitos both during high water and in autumn/fall when water recedes, so beware of that.
This would have gotten more stars if we hadn't done it in the heat of July. This trail is plenty flat and easy but SOOOOO HOT! Not much cover/shade and what is there is full of blood-thirsty mosquitoes. Luckily some kind soul left a bottle of Off on the trail so we were saved. Bring plenty of water-we ran out. Highlights included seeing the train go by 5 feet from where we were walking and a baby dear bedded down next to the water. Try this one in the fall. FYI, the directions that pop up for this hike are wrong. Enter via the Barr Lake Park entrance.
