Getting There

Here is a leisurely family hike you can do in a morning or afternoon. Mount Cutler - named after Henry Cutler, one of General Palmer's friends and a supporter of Colorado College - rises above Cheyenne Creek about half way up the Cheyenne Canyon, on the south side. The trailhead is well marked and has limited parking. Spectacular views are available from the summits.

Colorado Tourism Office, 1625 Broadway, Suite 1700 , Denver, CO, 80202, Phone: 800-COLORADO

Tips: This is a good family hikes; dog friendly as long as you keep your pet on a leash. Picnic areas abound before and after the site along N Cheyenne Canyon Rd. Drive carefully through the canyon; the road is narrow and people hike and bike in the traffic lanes. This hike is fun to do in conjunction with the Helen Hunt Falls hike.

Directions: Exit I-25 at exit 140. Go south on Tejon and bear right onto Cheyenne Blvd. This joins W. Cheyenne Canyon Rd about 50 yards from the Starsmore Discovery Center. Turn right onto North Cheyenne Canyon Rd and drive approximately 1.5 miles to the trailhead.

Fantastic view of the mountains! Someone told me this was a waterfall hike, and while you can see Seven Falls from here, you don't acrually get up close to a waterfall, which was a bummer. Still, a nice hike!

A great warm up hike. Watch near the top as the granite can get easy to slip on at times. Overall a nice one.

Great views, not much coverage, so wear sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses. There is a nice area at the end to chill and look at the views. Definitely recommend!

Decently easy. Great views. Towards the top, it gets a big rocky and narrow, but overall a great hike. Saw a bunch of little lizards.

Great trail! Had some out of towners with us and it was a great hike to make you feel like you’re still getting a nature hike but not too much elevation or difficulty levels. We also had a pup with us and was a good 2-3 mile hike (depending on how far you went). Lots of shaded spots but also some nice scenic open sunny areas.

Great trail to kick off the season! We did this in late May-ish, everyone was respectful with their masks. Get there early to snag parking right at the trailhead, there are only 4 or 5 spots. Also keep an eye on your map, you can easily get turned around on a lot of the connecting trails and end up not where you intended. At the top do yourself a favor and take the little offshoot to the right for stone benches and magnificent views.

Great hike! Not kid friend for young school age children. Narrow gravel paths in some areas that are pretty anxiety provoking for parents.

A really beautiful trail that winds its way up between North and South Cheyenne Canyon. Well marked, although we did take a wrong turn just below the summit and ended up descending a small gulley that took us back to the trail. We arrived on Saturday morning at around 8:30 and parking was a challenge. Definitely recommend this hike.
