well marked in places, got totally screwed up in others. previous comments mentioned that and I agree. not my favorite trail by far. graffiti on the rocks, litter, etc. really bummed to see that.

Overall we thought it was fantastic hike. It had a combination of length, elevation gain and history. Our first hike of the week. Great way to stretch the legs after a 27hr drive. Not all in one day btw

HikingGreat!

This is confusing trail because it starts you in the middle, between two trails: mount Zion is point A, to your right, your parking lot is point B ( the middle) and lookout mountain larger parking lot is point C, your your left. So your starting point is right in the middle (B). I started following Lookout mountain trail and it’s absolutely gorgeous and shady but it only leads you to a larger parking lot of lookout mountain and some sort of the mansion, from there I turned around and went back to where I started. Mount Zion is not marked and starts at the windy saddle park sign. You have to climb over the wooden fence and head up the unmarked trail, don’t worry you won’t get lost. There are two false summits on top, keep going until you see a pole with the orange and white striped kite looking flag. This is it- mount Zion. From there you can see the whole of Golden and downtown Denver in the distance. Then you turn around and go back to where you started, point B. These should be two separate trails and they shouldn’t be connected by AND. Next time I will only do the Lookout mountain. Sorry for such long message.

Heavily trafficked for a Tuesday at 1pm. Nicely shaded. Loved the incline. Bikers and hikers. Not many dogs. Trail is well kept and people were very nice. But of 30+ people I saw only 1 wore a mask

The final ascent of Mount Zion from the last parking lot is fenced off, undoubtedly to renaturalize the area. We respected this and turned back. Lots of shade and vistas from lookout mountain along the trail. Unfortunately, also saw many cigarette butts and litter along the way. Hiked with two year old in a rucksack and dog on leash. Most other dogs were also thankfully leashed. Rocky switchbacks made easier by poles. Would repeat but in reverse from Windy Point lot up to Buffalo Bills grave then back down instead.

Part of the trail is closed. Easily got lost on the trail and went way off path as the trail didn’t really navigate well. Super packed and touristy. Some bikers.

WARNING: Part of the trail is closed during the pandemic. The stretch to Mount Zion is a good example of a social trail with major problems of erosion, graffiti, and unplanned chaos. It goes straight up and down steep slopes. Hangout for local high schoolers. I would direct folks elsewhere. The stretch up to Lookout Mountain is fine but the end part is closed during the pandemic. Overall this route is contrived, unnatural, and unpleasant.
