Note: The road to the trailhead is closed from 11/26 to 6/21. You need to park at the Lost Lake trailhead and walk the 2.5 miles down the road to Piney River Ranch. Bring a bike!

Stunning hike, we didn’t make it to the saddle because of the unexpected extra 5 miles at the start, but we will be back in summer to climb Powell. Some route finding once you head up. Use the AllTrails map and you can’t go too wrong.

This basin just north of PineyLake offers great seclusion. The trail shown is actually just up to Knee Knocker Pass. (Looking over to the Northside of the Gore Range.) The Mount Powell summit is to the north, up a series of trail-less airy shelfs. (And adds a couple more hours of adventure.) I actually came face to face with an eagle as I pulled myself up to one...!

Breath taking. Literally and figuratively speaking.
