Monument Colorado's Topological Highpoint Monument, CO, is about 10 miles north of Colorado Springs, straddling I-25 today as it straddled the Rio Grande Railroad when it was founded in 1872. As Pike's Peak dominates the skyline west of Colorado Springs, Mt Herman rises majestically from the plain on which Monument rests. For those who like their mountains accessible and their hikes manageable, even by out of town visitors, Mt Herman is the place to go. The trek described here is about 2 miles round trip, during which the hiker will gain and lose about 1000 feet in elevation. The top of the mountain, from which Pike's Peak is visible to the southwest and Kansas City to the east (on a very clear day!), is only about 9100 feet high; so there is enough oxygen to enjoy the time one spends contemplating whichever scene is most captivating.

Great views from the top. Beginning is tough but the rest of it is a breeze. Spent 2 hours on the top after hiking up and with the wind I could’ve stayed all day.

This is a great moderate hike that can be done in an hour and a half. Use the directions here on the app to find the trail head-it’s not marked and there is no official parking lot. It does get rocky and washed out 3/4 of the way up. If you keep checking the app and click on the map it will show where you are in relation to the trail. Amazing views!

Didn't love the bumpy road up to the trail, but the trail itself is wonderful! Amazing views at the top, especially given that the hike up isn't very long or difficult. Some areas with loose gravel to be careful on and rocks to traverse, but nothing too bad; moderate is a fair rating for this trail.

First off this trail is off a pretty rocky dirt road about 2.5 mile in. The trail head isn’t easily marked and there is parking for about 6 cars, the trail is a good steady incline. Parts of the trail have definitely been washed out with recent rains and it is not well marked at all. Hiking poles would definitely help in washed out areas. Towards the top, the trail is difficult to follow and we got off trail several times. Not a lot of traffic so we just gave up and headed back down. The view was nice but not worth the stress of getting lost on a mountain

Great quick hike that’s not too difficult. Did on a Thursday evening and it took about an hour and a half up and down. About half way up the trail becomes unclear and there are multiple routes to the top; be cautious. On the way down if you become lost, find and follow the creek to the main trail. Poles made the decent much quicker but are my no means needed for this trail. Views from the top are fantastic in all directions

The trail head is not very well marked. But once you get on it you’ll know it. It was a bit of an incline but the views of pikes peak are out of this world. There was quite a bit of area to explore when you get to the top. The final climb up is rocky. But not too difficult.

Our first Rocky Mountain summit! We had a great time on this hike. Loved the views and the path is great. You definitely lose the marked path near the top, don't panic, use the downloaded map and follow the contours on the map. Not too difficult at all, the path is sheltered from the wind most of the way so we were very comfortable. The road to the parking lot is rough and there is a section with steep drop offs that made me nervous but my driver (husband) did great.

Good trail. Only saw 2 others ( went around 9a on a sunday am). As others have said, a bit of a rock scramble up at times, not super clearly marked, but a nice short workout if only doing this trail. View were phenomenal. Brought our dog as well and she did alright.

Great short hike to summit with moderate uphill climb. Trail not marked the best, but easy to find your way to the summit regardless. Did an easy rock scramble near the top when I got a bit off the trail. GREAT view of Pikes Peak and Pike Forest from the top. Great view of north part of Colorado Springs and Monument too. Good spot for amateur radio Summits on the Air activation too.

Hit trail early to catch the sunrise- missed that as clouds not burned off- used spikes as many areas of the trail covered in compacted snow/ice. Under an hour to get to the top- good climb for local area.
