We went late into the evening ~7:15pm start and made it to the summit before sunset hiking at a pretty fast clip for uphill. Views were nice and was a perfect length for an after work hike. There were a quite a bit of rocks to navigate and my wife and I got off the trail accidentally at a patch of rocks where the trail disappeared. We took the loop north and got lost somewhere heading south. We were not sure where to go to get back to the correct trail, so we continued on to the summit via a social trail. We decided to take the summit to the east and this trail was much easier to follow. I'd recommend going around 2 hours before sunset to avoid baking in the sun and still have light to finish the hike. There was also a nice updraft from the canyon that provided a refreshing breeze on our way down.

Beautiful balloon trail! It was the perfect hike for someone still acclimating to the altitude. A slight scramble in some places but a fairly easy trail overall.

We saw a rattlesnake on the trail sitting on a rock in the middle around the loop.

Very, very sunny and hot hike. Not very challenging but if you trip you’re falling down a dang mountain. Would much rather do this in October than July.

Today a rattlesnake was spotted on this trail. If you hike it, be aware of rattlesnakes!

great hike. parking is a bit tough if you show up later. would recommend doing the small extra loop to the peak of the mountain. took about 2 hours, with a half hour break at the top. Wildflowers and great views of Golden are the highlights!

Parking was a little tough at 11am, but we found a spot. Initially you’ll hear the highway as you ascend but typically the wind overpowers when you reach the north face. The wild flowers we abundant, I’ve never seen so many this time of year or this close to Denver.

Did this hike in the evening, starting around 6:30. The drive into Golden and the trail itself were remarkably green. Fairly gradual ascent, not too steep. Quite a few rocks in some areas, but manageable. You'll probably be exposed to sun at some point during the hike, so bring a hat and sunscreen! You get nice views of the foothills, downtown Golden (and the Coors factory), downtown Denver, and some larger mountains in the distance on the west side of the loop.

Completed this hike on 6/16. Lots of car noise in the beginning but once you hit the loop that goes away. Did this with our two kids -ages 3 and 5. They completed it but there were some steep drop offs that made my momma heart worry. They loved being able to climb the rocks in many areas of this trail. Very limited shade so bring extra water especially on a warm day. We also ran into a rattlesnake at the end of the trail - yikes!

Nice hike! There was a rattlesnake today near the beginning. Heard him going up and coming back so be careful.

Great trail right near Golden. We had our two pups along with us and it was pretty crowded today for a Saturday morning. The trail is a combination of scree and some rock, but still a nice challenging hike for a morning or afternoon. Grades are not ridiculous and we completed the loop going counterclockwise in about 2.5 hours. We made quite few stops along the way for pictures, and lingered at the top for about 15 minutes. It’s dry and hot on the East side but definitely more shaded and cooler on the West side. Storms threatened during the trip but nothing came if it. Overall, a beauty of a hike for sure.

Pretty good hike close to Denver ! Pretty intermediate for the average person. Saw a huge 5FT snake along the trail so be aware

The rocks on this trail made it SO FUN! There’s lots of dirt too which can make the rocks dusty and slick, so be aware of that. Doesn’t require too much endurance for the more avid hiker, but is perfect for a quick and scenic loop. Lots of people today, as I expected (it’s Saturday) so remember your hiking etiquette-some areas are narrow and best for 1 person at a time. Great views of Golden and Denver, definitely recommend the whole loop. Not a lot of shade so it’s nice and hot. Parking lot is small so lots of people were parking in the street.

Really gorgeous trail. Very popular. Did this on a clear 75 degree day and it was HOT. My older pug mix dogs struggled since it was so exposed and we got started early. The only water on the trail is right next to the parking lot so bring lots of water for the pups. Tons of lush greenery and wild flowers in bloom!

It's a great trail. My only comment is this, if you do the loop there are places where the trail is hard to see because it is pretty rocky. just be careful when you do the loop to be mindful of the trail and loose rock.

Great afternoon hike. Flowers are in bloom!!!! Beautiful views all around the loop. Did this on 6/9/19 in the afternoon. Sky cleared hi of 60. I think it would be super hot on a 70 degree day. Not a lot of shade.

This was a fun trail for a Sunday afternoon hike. It was fairly busy but we weren’t held up by other groups at all. Some good views and pretty flowers. As a beginner hiker, the incline was a bit tough but made it up and down with no breaks (other than to enjoy the views at the top for a little while).
