Was a great trip

Went July 5 and only saw three or four people all day. Early part of the trail through meadows and along the stream are beautiful and an easy hike. Second part up the mountain to Mirror Lake is fairly steep and harder, but shaded by dense forest. There is a lot of beetle-kill killed trees and deadfall, some over the trail. Be prepared for mosquitoes on the trail and at camp. Stayed the night at campsite one and it was gorgeous. Two moose right in camp, and I was visited by a couple of deer in the early morning.

The lake is absolutely beautiful, make sure to wake up early enough to see the sunrise on the rock wall. I thought this was as a great trail too, well kept and easy to follow. I didn't really have to use my map the entire trail since it was very well marked and maintained. Through most of the hike there was enough of a breeze to keep bugs away but a little under 2 miles to the campsites there's a stretch of woods with some stagnant pools of water where the mosquitoes get really terrible. A little difficult for a beginner but you'll make it if you push.

in reply to other reviews this trial starts at Coral creek trail head off of long draw road. the trail starts and travels outside the parks boundaries. Spotted two moose at one of the several meadows along the way. If you are comfortable with unmainted trails commanche peak trail splits off to the right and once up top there are amazing views of the parks highest peaks.

Arrived around 8:20am at RMNP on a Thursday and there were plenty of spots left at the Bear Lake entrance. To get to Mirror Lake you go past Alberta falls. There is a V that you will come up on with Mills Lake and Black Lake to the left and The Loch Lake and Mirror Lake to the right. You hit The Loch lake first and it is beautiful. Once you continue up the trail you will hit Timberline falls- also an amazing view. Then you go up a steep incline of stairs (boulders) to get to Mirror lake. Sky Pond is about a quarter mile past Mirror and worth it. We stopped at Mills on the way down and our trip was 12 miles round trip! I have posted pictures! No snow on the ground yet. The aspens are yellow and are beautiful. Be advised there are quite a few steep inclines.

Relaxed, casual hike except for one part when you're going downhill towards the lake..we didn't do whole loop so we'd turned around and walked back up which was the tough part. Beautiful views of the peaks and mirror lake. Good hike to bring a dog
