Take a walk past historic mines on Prospect and Mineral Hills and the remains of an old gold dredge. An exhibit of a concentration mill jig explains how miners sorted the rocks and settled out the valuable minerals. The golden aspen make this hike a real treat in autumn. Snowshoeing and cross-country skiing is allowed during winter months.

A nice stroll on a fairly flat trail through the aspens. It’s early October, so the trees are past their peak, but we still found some gold! A lot of relics from the mining industry with interpretive signs along the way.

Really nice flat trail with interpretive mining signs along the way. Would be beautiful in September. In October, most of the leaves were off the aspen trees but we still found some gold! There are lots of mountain bikes on the trail

Great little hike. Lots of interesting places to stop and saw some deer. Took Minnie to the right, then on the loop back, took X10U8 back to the trailhead lot (Minnie curves down to the road). Few bikers, all very friendly.

Nice easy little hike, good views. You can extend it by going straight halfway through where Minnie mine goes left and downhill. I think it’s called side door.

Poorly marked and ended up off the trail a couple of times. That frustrated the kids. We did find a fun place, Country Boy Mine, on the drive up. The family enjoying panning for gold.

Trail was a little confusing but ended with sighting of a mama moose with 2 calves. Perfect conditions.

Trailhead has limited parking (5-6 spots), however you can park on the side of the main gravel road if necessary. Trail was completely dry on June 16th. I would recommend a different route than the one suggested by AllTrails. Their recommendation drops you onto the main gravel road that you drove in on. We took the path counter-clockwise. Right away on the trail there is a fork with Minnie Mine to the right and X10U8 to the left. Take the right path up to visit a number of old mining sites. There are amazing views of the ski area from these lookouts. You can see the rocky path of the Reiling Dredge boat as well. If you are interested in seeing the actual dredge - the trailhead is directly across the road from the Minnie Mine trailhead. There are a few interpretive spurs off of the main path. You will eventually reach a spot in the trail that curves to the left - at this point you will still be in the trail that AllTrails recommends. You will come to a fork with 3 options-right, straight, and left. Take the left trail that heads uphill, which will connect with the trail that you came in on. The trail to the right will take you down to the main road. Overall, nice trail that is shaded nearly the entire way, with great views and interesting Breckenridge history.

Nice starter trail, no mud, took the side door trail up higher who was a bit tricky coming down due to gravel and rocks, poles were used. Great view of Breck from the top!

Nice southern facing trail which was perfect for this snowy year. There was snow in places and poles were helpful for the climbs woth snow. Cool mining ruins and some nice views. Took about an hour.

Very nice trail with a gentle incline for people who want to feel like they are on an alpine hike without the uphill trek. The second half of the Minnie mine was difficult to locate, so we ended up taking XIOU8 for the last 1/2 mile or so. Muddy and snowy but didn’t need of crampons. Poles were a help though with kids in packs on our back

The smell of the forest is great. interpretive trails go off of main trail and take you to mine shafts etc. learned about the gold mines which was interesting. Although it also made us get on a different trail for a while but it was easy to figure out how to get back on the Minnie Mine trail again. Nice relaxing trail. Round trip 1.5 hours including getting “lost”

I ended hooking up with the Mineral Hill trail which was pretty flat and wrapped around the hill, going through several boulder fields. It would be very pretty when the aspens were changing.

Easy hike close to Breckinridge. Great view of the ski area in the distance. The abandoned mines along the trail make it more interesting than just a regular hillside hike. There are additional trails branching off if you want to go longer.

Nice short hike. Best views of the mountain are early, take your pictures if you want to then! Cool ruins of old mines. You could join the section of the X10u8 trail (I think I spelled that right) instead of going down to the road if you hate walking on the road.

I arrived by midmorning and there was still plenty of parking. Loads of really cool dredges, tailings and mine ruins for history nuts to enjoy. Bikes are allowed on this trail. I can see how it might be hard to share the trail in some places where it is super narrow on the hillside. It is always good to practice trail etiquette and to pass on the info politely...if you haven't already been run over. Hikers, beware. The trail is just a giant tube of golds, oranges, and reds that will only intensify in color here in a week or so. Bring the kids. Bring the camera. Happy Hiking!

Great easy hike to get acclimated. Only saw bikers, no other hikers. Not many Mountain views, but the trees are wonderful.

Easy hike through the woods with several interesting old abandoned mines to see and a handful of surprising vistas. Great mix of ease (I make a point of this as I am older and live a sedentary lifestyle near sea level), historically significant sites, and beautiful vistas.

Great trail with cool old mine remnants. Boyfriend mountain biked while I hiked. Definitely more mountain bikers than hikers the day we went. Knocked off a star as trail markings can be very confusing. Couldn’t really tell where the trail actually ended, and we ended up coming out at the road rather than the parking lot. Probably my own errors though and not the trail’s.
