Another option; you can take the West Frisco ATV trail up (a slightly easier climb), and the singletrack Middle Frisco trail back down. The two combined form a nice loop trail.
trail is in good condition with just a few trees over the trail. Trail is beautiful and has minimal usage. signage is sparce. Views at aipine region are epic. At one of the San Francisco lake you can see native Rio Grande cutthroat trout over 5 pounds swimming in mass! Overall fantastic hike around 13 miles. You can climb Bennett peak with a side trip from the lake. Route is to the right of the lake.
Great trail. It is pretty long for a round trip. It was about 6.6 one way by gps. The best views of the valley are above the reservoir at the end. Recommend going to ~12000 feet to see the valley. It is breathtaking. Also, Mount Bennett is at the end. It is after the trail ends. It would have been nice to summit, but I was spent today. Also, the snow was rolling in, so the combination really made me shy away. Overall, worth doing. Especially if you want to use it to train.
Numerous two tracks and single tracks throughout a high desert on BLM
This is an enjoyable, gently inclined but sustained, fairly long, non-technical hike with a lot of possible elevation gain, good for getting into shape for the 14ers or just to do for its own sake. If the weather looks favorable, go all the way to Bennett's summit!
Great trail. I was fortunate enough to see a mountain lion cross the road, close to the trail head. It contains beautiful shaded areas that open into lush fields. The constant sound of moving water is very relaxing. Definitely recommend!
I’ve hiked this many different times since my cabin is just a few miles away. Beautiful hike. Great gradual elevation changes and heavily shaded by dark timber. Can’t take any ATV larger than a quad. It is along Frisco Creek so the sounds of running water and great.
Dope. Sweet climb that isnt crazy technical and has some fun views
