I was sadly unimpressed with this trail. It was rather boring, views didn’t change, the end is the trail just stopping, and there is no shade. Wouldn’t recommend for anyone who is looking for an interesting hike.

Loved this quick easy hike. Kids and dogs loved it! The mines themselves are closed right now, but the scenic hike is worth it.

great trail, novice skill level, trail is mostly very easy for children, not all parts are accessible via stroller, would not advice doing a stroller alone, as you'll need help scaling down rocky decline. Perfect for dogs who have a recall, unlikely they can run away too far. don't forget the water!

FYI: BLM update on 4/21/2020 Today, the BLM Grand Junction Field Office verified reports that a hazardous rockfall occurred on the popular Mica Mine trail, south of Grand Junction in the Bangs Canyon Management Area. The trail will remain open, but the area of the mine where the rockfall occurred should be avoided. An estimated 20-30 tons of material fell into the historic area of the mine; an area often visited by the public. During the springtime, change in temperatures and moisture can cause rockfalls to occur with little-to-no warning due to natural freeze-thaw-fall processes. The BLM is currently assessing the condition of the trail, while we can never predict the next rockfall, we are evaluating the stability of the location.

Great day hiking today. The morning is the best time to go as the bird songs are amazing, and there is not a lot of traffic. The trail is easy to follow up to the mine, but there is a large rock outcropping that can be treacherous to get around about 3/4 into the trail. We turned back at this point but would like to try and complete soon. Heading back the foot traffic coming up was busy even middle of the week.

Nice, easy trail. Indian Paintbrushes are just starting to bloom, still very little water in the creek. If you’re looking to get your heart rate up, this isn’t your trail. Nonetheless, it’s a 5 star hike if you’re looking for something nice & easy, with a neat destination at the end.

Beautiful day. Not much water in the creeks today. Quite a few people out but plenty of room to social distance.

Enjoyed everything about this hike. Great easy/moderate trail with fantastic views. There was shade here and there under rock overhangs...took my dog and had a great hike.

This was a great hike with my kids (2, 4, 7). Did it in March after some rain, so it was a bit muddy. The quartz and mica formations at the end are stunning, and there are lots of gorgeous views along the hike. I recommend for a nice afternoon hike with the family. Dog owners: please, please pick up after your pets!

it's a really cool trail following a stream up passed a really cool old quartz mine. The snow made the trail even more beautiful and added very little difficulty.

My favorite go to trail if I want to take a break, also the perfect place to take pictures. Dogs are allowed, but must be leashed and please pick up after your dogs, though not many people do so. As well as pack it in, pack it out. The hike is pretty easy, the path to the mine is mostly dirt and big rocks, stream crossing, and quartz path that leads to an opening where there used to be big chunks of quartz. After the mine the trail dead ends at a waterfall and an unofficial trail that’s more advanced for those who want to go off trail. The waterfall is mostly non existent depending on the time you go, but there is alway stagnant water which the mosquitoes love. Also keep an eye out for fire ants along the path and the occasional lizard, I’m sure snakes and scorpions too, but I have never seen any, just snake holes.
