Hiking

First time visiting this trail, but with this app it is easy to follow. Really nice lookout spots for pics of Dillon Reservoir. Good shade spots for breaks, large trees throughout. Could use more clear path markings, most or all markers just point 2 ways and say “Dillon” with no reference to the trail name on this app. Overall we enjoyed the hike. However I’d say for “flatlander” visitors like us who take evening walks or bike mostly around your neighborhoods, the rating of “Easy” is misleading. Yes there are flat, easy stretches,—but be aware there are also several inclines that can leave a lot of folks winded especially if not from this altitude all the time. I’m betting the “Easy” rating is very relative to other area climbs by folks who get out & do regional hikes regularly. So if you are a 20- or 30-something highlander resident with a “flat-belly” in good physical condition, this hike might be even boring. But if you’re 50+, maybe a little pudgy, and haven’t hiked or biked any serious inclines in a while, just be aware that “Easy” might not be as true for you as for your grandkids! I’d not recommend for those with mobility challenges, as the path has lots of dirt spots to navigate that may be slick, especially on the downhill stretches.

Hiking

This was our first hike for the trip. Being from a low elevation city it was a great way to help acclimate ourselves to the high elevations and low oxygen levels of the Rockies. The trail is pretty simple to follow and there are enough people out there that you don't feel like you can get lost. One thing to realize is about halfway through the hike once you are on the larger service road the trail is designed to turn back into the woods. We didn't notice that turn and kept on the service road adding a mile to our trek. So be on the lookout for a small trailhead sign on the left as you walk along the service road. All in all interesting trail( trees, views, open grasslands, etc). I would recommend it to any low elevation visitors for sure; however if your a local or around the area I can see how you wouldn't see the trail as a "must see."

STEEP SWITCHBACK to start! That said, the trail is absolutely beautiful. Tricky for me, but i'm just visiting Colorado and haven't gotten used to the altitude yet.

Great trail. Steep at first. Some nice stop offs by streams. Worth the hike to the top to see the lakes and relax for a bit before the hike back down.

I’m a novice. Got here at 6:50am. Soon as I entered the clearing, I saw a huge mule deer. I backtracked and went back into the clearing and wooded area on the backside because all the trail did was go on the road by the lake. Really nice and easy though.

Perfect short trail with beautiful views. Plenty of flat easy trail parts with the occasional short inclines to make it feel like you are still getting a little workout in!

While in keystone. Steepish beginning of hike but the rest isn’t steep. Hit the overlooks, stunning! Half shade half sun. Parts of the hike are marked with distance. Can do one to five miles.

HikingGreat!

A relatively easy hike after the switchbacks on the first part. The views are great, and the trail is well maintained. Very enjoyable, and very popular. I like to go very early to beat the crowd.

This is the first trail our family hiked while visiting Colorado and we really enjoyed it. Kids age 9-16, we hiked a 3.5 mile loop. We arrived around 9:30 and easily found a space to park!

Real nice trail to take a stroll on. The elevation gain is easy and the trail flattens out. The trail itself is in really good shape and would be nice to use for trail running for a more intense workout. Awesome views of the reservoir and mountains. You most likely won’t have this trail to yourself on weekends or the middle of the day.

This was a nice hike with great views of Lake Dillon! We had our dogs and everyone we encountered with or without dogs was very respectful and friendly on the trail. Only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because we walked along a road on the way back that you share with bikers. Not a huge deal tho! Also not too busy on a late Friday morning!
