McCaslin Open Space Loop is a 2.7 mile lightly trafficked loop trail located near Broomfield, Colorado that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, running, and nature trips.
NOTE: There is no parking at the trailhead.
Great views, can see Denver and Longs Peak at the same time. Not a destination hike but a great one for those in the area.
I wasn’t clear on the private nature of the space. There was a closed gate with a sign that said visitors assume the risk of visiting. I accepted the risk and went for it. Parking was a roadside pullout and the trail descends quickly to neighborhood bike paths below great views to the Flatirons and Indian Peaks. There is a surprising amount of elevation change as the network of trails winds around deep fissures and drainages that cut through the area.
Not too bad, however, there are some rattlesnakes on the way.
Very sun baked in the summer but my dog loved it - a footpath in my neighborhood off of Rock Creek Circle leads to the trail. We started there so it was downhill on the way back instead of up. Wouldn't recommend it as a destination trail, but not a bad dog walk if you live in the neighborhood.
